Draining tank?
Going to be buying a new exhuast and a few other pieces of 'candy' for my '12 R1 over the winter, was going to drain the tank, bolt it all back on and just let the bike run out with whats left in the bodies.....
theres no issues with a drained bike if it's in heated climate, as far as moisture/rust right?

Better off being full than empty. Either with some stabiliser to stop the fuel from deteriorating...or dispose of the fuel in spring.

I have an empty spare tank, but it is coated with marine fogger on the inside (oil substance) to prevent rusting. Why do you want it empty?

unless you tip it, it won't drip....AND it is sealed so I wouldn't be worried about vapors

I'll admit over the course of 2 or 3 months you shouldn't have issues leaving it empty though...Just it really is better/safer to have it full, unless you coat it
