Valve Adjustment Question's

Posting this here vs 02-03 specific because maybe all service manuals are the same?

I understand finding TDC of Cyl 1. but in the manual it states measure the clearance. Im assuming at this position I can measure both intake and exhaust valves per that cylinder?

Also, the manual states "to measure the valve clearances of the other cylinders, starting with cylinder 1 at TDC, turn the crankshaft clockwise as specified in the following table.
cylinder 2 180*
cylinder 4 360*
Cylinder 3 540*

So I believe its referring to starting from cylinder 1 for each above degree setting. I.E. When im done checking cylinder 2, i can just rotate another 180* to check cylinder 4.

Now the kicker, In between the manual telling me valve clearance measuring sequence ( 1 2 4 3 ) and the table of degrees per cylinder, it refers to a chart that states: "degrees that the crankshaft is turned COUNTER clockwise (this is a reference to a picture)
Confuses me because everything else refers to clockwise.

i have always just rotated the lobe straight up

i only worry about putting cylinder 1 at tdc if i have to pull the cams

I shimmed my valves a couple of weeks ago and picked up on the same thing with counter clockwise vs clockwise. The only reason i could think of is to do with the specific tension on the chain tensioner if you turn the crank slowly the one way vs the other, so i would suggest to follow the manual. (Maybe some of the gurus here could shed more light on it) Like vcyclenut says just make sure that both lobes on intake and exhaust face as per the manual, and yes you can measure both at the same time. Good luck if you want i'll send you an excel sheet that i used to sort mine out. Running sweeeet with no more ticking.
