In ProBolt you need 17mm because they measure by total shaft length.
If you were ordering from Kurveygirl you would need 14mm because there they measure working length.
You could get gold in Ti too if you really want to go all out.

Be careful with the gold though. It may not match up with what you want it to.

update well incase anyone searches this topic heres what i found out
probolt sells them in the link above in actual anadized gold
http://www.probolt-usa.com/aluminium...l#.UMsl0ay0DXQ
kurveygirl only offers "zinc" plated bolts which will scratch and fade over time. they are listed under ducati parts and apparently its a mod lots of people do but still its not guarenteed to last

ProBolt do them in both Aluminum and TI in gold
Aluminum @ $5.76 each or $57.60 for 10
http://www.probolt-usa.com/aluminium...l#.UMvHenePSSo
Ti Pack of 10 @ $140.73
KurveyGirl do bright finish or Black
Pack of 10 @ $32.00
http://kurveygirl.com/shop/product_i...products_id=74
They are not just for Ducati's either.
http://kurveygirl.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id=319
KurvryGirl come with protective washers do not scratch or fade are are great quality.
ProBolt stuff is always great but to say that KurveyGirl's are that inferior is an injustice, Loads of people have them and I've heard of no similar problems, mine have been on for over 4 years and I've been extremely happy with them

i was saying that about kurveygirl because when i emailed them thats what they told me. and i dont know if you have every worked with zinc coated parts but they wear/fade with time.
Hi Vincent,
Thank you for your Dzus fastener question.
We have had several bike builder purchase the "Genuine Ducati Dzus" fasteners for Yamaha R1 project bikes. These bolts may require a bit of "Adjusting" of the mounting clips for a perfect fit. The tab may need to be adjusted as the Ducati Dzus bolts have a 1mm shorter working length.
- Link: http://kurveygirl.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id=206
The Ducati Dzus bolts have a "gold" appearance finish, but please note these are not a bright 24k type gold finish.
As a final note, we have not done a Yamaha R1 build with these bolts. The heads are larger than the OEM hardware and may need some adjustment for the best fit and appearance.
Let us know if you have any more questions.

Ahh gotcha, you were asking specifically about the Ducati ones then
If you get the ones I linked they work great but, like you say, if you actually want gold then ProBolt is the way to go.

I got the same response via email... I will be going with probolt as I need the anodized gold and not the zinc plated. I already have a ton of the allen 1/4 turns as the previous owner put them on but I want to go with the d-ring in gold as i am changing the whole paint and color scheme of the bike

I have a question about the d ring fastners. When you fold them over against the fairing. Don't they vibrate and make marks on the plastics? Let me know. Thanks

no they are nice and stiff, if you have your backing clip at the right distance it should be nice and snug. i have not rode with them yet because its winter but i wouldnt imagine them moving. if you have it loose enough to move then it just falls out the the backing clip and the whole thing is loose at that point.
