All up to you and how much you wanna sit on selling your bike
You're not giving him anything so I don't see any risk. If anything, just have him annotate it somewhere that the $600 is for you to keep and he can't demand it back... Or just have him PayPal it to you as a gift.

Honestly, it sounds like this guy's desperate. Hate to let you down, but he probably just saw the bike and shat his pants, and he wants it that bad. I wouldn't count on the 600 bucks. His NCO's or SNCO's are probably trying to talk him out of it as we speak. They'll tell him how dangerous it is, how he shouldn't be so concerned with getting a bike if he has any other debt. Normally this'd be a good thing, but before I left the Marines, I saw this a lot. Mostly for good reason.
I'm just saying don't get your hopes up. If it pans out, then hell, sweet deal. If not, his loss. Not yours.

It may take some legwork, but if possible write up something with the fact your receiving the 600 no matter if he buys the bike or not and you sign it and he sign it. Save a copy. You will have to no doubt scan it, email him, and he will have to print, sign, scan, send it back to you. You could also ask him to notarize it, so you simply notarize it, and he should be able to have any commissioned officer notarize his sig as well.
It's legwork, but it will cover you from any BS should you choose to be worried.
The guy who wants to buy my car is also deployed, but we've talked on the phone, hahah.

being in the military myself I think I would do it if I wasn't in no rush to sell. You can always spot a scam from the real thing they alway say item instead of what it is but really it's up to you. And if the dudes getting back from deployment he will more than likely have the money

Just don't get caught in the scam of, "here's a four thousand dollar check, cash it, and keep the six hundred, but send me the rest back".

How about this. He's a fvckin soldier. Take the 600$ cash, hold on to it and the bike, when he comes to either pick it up or say nvm on the bike, give em the money back. If he never shows up again, money is yours. Don't take a check, money order or cash only.
He's sacrificing, why not do the same, you're in no hurry anyways

+1 hook the guy up, I would. Unless your in a rush to sell. Winterize it. And you would make that soldier so happy. I personally would. I serve in the military as well. That guy is over seas and wants nothing more to be home and buy your bike. Think of it as a kind gesture of saying thanks for sacrificing yourself for the greater good of our nation and its people for less than 30k a year. Lol military pay sucks so to be able to fork over 600$ for you to keep regardless is cool of him to do.

Thanks! Hope you all had a merry Xmas ! Looking forward to the new year! Poor soldier spent his Xmas away from his family in a hut or installation prolly ate MRE's for Xmas. Not pushing one way or the other. Just remember what hell our soldiers go thru. My brother in law spent 18 months BoG in afghan away from his wife as a Army res. I got way more respect for those who deploy than for what I do in the USCG. Migrants, search and rescue and drug interdiction still allows me to see my wife and kid couple times a week for now. Until I get back on a bigger boat and leave for 2-3 months at a time.

you have nothing to loose and by the same way you could help him. If would probably give the 600 back to him should he not buy it for whatever reason

I was in the same situation when I sold my last bike to a guy stationed in Ft Benning. He told me he was willing to wire me money ASAP and pay for me to ride it about two hours to his fathers house. He ended up not doing it because his girl bought him a gixxer. But I was a Marine stationed overseas at one point and I would say go do a little to help him out If he sends you the money tell him you will just hold it until he gets in and if he ends up buying it from you go ahead and have fresh oil put in it, gas it up for him. Being over seas in the holidays was one of the worst times in my military career, and it feels good to have someone try to help you out that doesnt even know you.

ok just did the deal with him 600 wired to me. to hold it til february. and i keep it the whole thing if he doesnt show by 3/7/13 either way. im not military but REALLY respect what they do and the service they provide for the greatest goddam country in the world! and if i can help one out then hell ya.
so he said 600 is non refundable. but he is positive he wanted the bike and he cant wait he says hes a sniper so thats cool as shit. but im happy with my decision to help the guy out hopefully it wont bite me in the ass, but i dont see how it could.
