A couple questions, from a newb
So as some of you may know, I am an absolute newb when it comes to my R1. I try to read as much as possible, and I try to learn as much as possible. But I still have some questions... If at all possible.
So during the winter, due to some excess cash, and some free time, I started modding my 04 R1. So far, I must say, I am having an absolutely splendid time, but I've run into a couple issues.
My list of mods include....
Akra carbon fiber slip-ons
Akra y-pipe
K&N air filter
Now, she hasn't run since these installations, and I had planned on doing some other things first... But these parts kind of fell into my lap so... Should I buy a PCIII/V? From what I've read, all this increased airflow may make me run hot? So is there anything else I should worry about?
Secondly, I bought a pair of Gilles adjusters and lifters(I think that is what they are called?), and after changing my sprockets, and installing them, there is a clicking noise... Now I've pinpointed it down to the lifters clipping my bolts/nuts. Is this a sign that I installed incorrectly? Or perhaps that I just need to take the bolts off the lifters and file them down?
Anyways, I'm sure ill run into more questions as I go, but Nj has hit a warm week and I'd love to get out on it while its nice... But don't want to rush anything.

anytime you ditch the cat (y pipe) you need a fuel controller to correct the AFR. so yes. get a PCV or something

Advised to not even get on it until then? I was curious if I installed the chain and everything correctly and wanted to give her a little ride around town.

Nothing on the adjusters/lifters should hit anything. Post a pic and I can probably tell you what's wrong.

Your lifters should mount on the outside - not the inside of the adjusters. That'll take care of the extra bolt length being where it shouldn't and hitting the sprocket nuts

Where did you get those adjusters from, they do not look like 04 R1 adjusters to me.
Do you know what model they are or can you get a side pic.
One thing is sure though, as said the lifters should be on the outside.
These are 04-06 adjusters

I probably asked you this before, but memory fades me.
Where did you got the funnel protector?
I like the fact
t that the rear axel nut fit inside the funnel
Thx Ian

I think this could be the problem as I have not seen the TCA adjusters listed for R1's prior to 07 before, they have always been the KTS style I posted.
If you look at the swingarm on an 07 onwards, the thickness of material that the adjuster sits on, is about double that of earlier models. If you had this extra material on the 04 then I do not believe the bolts would be hitting and hence the problem.

Would you suggest scrapping them entirely then? Or just shaving the bolts down a little. They look pretty awesome and find them to be fairly helpful. With the exception of the slight rub, they appear to fit well.

Just change or shave the bolts if you think the fit is good.
One other thing looking at the pic you posted, why are your rear spools so long, I'd be nervous about that much leverage on a 6mm bolt, can't you lift a little closer to the arm.?

Moved it closer to the arm, and switched around the lifters. No more rubbing! Thanks for your tips and help guys.
