What Times to Expect (2003 R6)

I'm hittin up the track this summer on my 2003 R6...i can launch well...the magazine times for the new R6 is 10.80 seconds...what times should I expect? (fully stock by the way)...

i have taken my 01 r6 and run an average of 11 secs. never in the 10s for me. i think from what i have seen that most 600s run in the low 11s and maybe high 10s on good run.

I have an R6 (2001) and with some mods (no power adders: nos, turbo, etc.) you can get well into the 10 second range. Your times are dependent on your suspension set-up. The R6 has a really strange power curve (or at least the last model) and a super deep 1st gear ratio. There is a noticable dip in power ~ 9,000 rpms. If you launch at under 9,000 rpms the front wheel will hover the ground before reaching the 9,000 rpm mark. At ~9,000 rpms the tire will fall to the ground before reaching the sudden boost in hp ~10,000 rpms. At 10,000 rpms the sharp power curve will lift the front back into the air very quickly (the rebounding action of the front fork contributes greatly to this). You will be pretty ballsy if you don't roll off of the throttle. I would go to Schnitz Racing.com and buy a $20.00 front end strap before going to the track. This will keep the front end planted on the ground. If you go stock I would say that you could pull 11.30's at best. If you go with full exhaust, change the spockets, strap the front, lower the rear 3 inches, and rejet (or map) you can get in the 10.40-10.50 range. Just remember to keep your legs behind you (both on the ground), your torso low and over the tank, and try coming out at about 6,500-7,000 rpms if you are running the stock suspension. With practice (and a stock suspension) you could pull off 1.8-1.9 sec 60' times. Good Luck!

Hey kid loops!

Here is my time slip from my 1999 R6 this weekend. It is completely stock motor with a Quill High Mount slip on. I haven't even rejetted it. I have a Schnitz strap on the front and a lowering link in the back that lowers it about three inches.

I am leaving the line a 6000 RPM. 10.899 is the best I have ran on this bike lowered. When it wasn't lowered the best was 11.495.

I would check out McCoy Motorsports and order your starp and lowering Speed Link from them.

I have the Speed Link on my R1 and you can lower the bike by yourself with it being adjustable.

I just have a lowering link for my R6. It kinda a pain in the ass to switch it back and forth.

And with either link you wont be able to use your kick stand after lowering it.

I am thinking about an adjustable kickstand but dont feel like paying $170 dollars for a kickstand.

I think I will eventually get my swing arm extended for my R1!

Nice timeslip...I'll have to post some of mine after next weekend. Do you use the clutch on the one-two shift on your R1? I have tried doing without on my R6 but the rear end gets super "squirl-e". I've got it geared down two teeth in the front so this may have something to do with it.

Have not dragged the R1 yet!

But I have not found a ggod way to engage from first to second on the R6 without the clutch.

The rest of the gears float in fine with a little release off the gas.

I think you would have to goto and air or electric type of shifter for better and quicker shifts.

I didn't notice that the time slip was for your R6 until after I posted (in a hurry). Anyway...that makes it even more respectable. We race on 1000 ft tracks here. The best I could manage with the stock bike was 9.40's. I put on a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket and ran 2 tenths slower (extra shift and launching problems with stock suspension set up). Here is a timeslip from one of my 14 tooth passes. I thought about going up in the front one or two teeth b/c of the R6's deep 1st gear and b/c it would allow me to finish in 2nd gear (~110mph). I just installed an Ivan's jet kit, Hindle Carbon Fiber slip on, Schnitz's adjustable lowering link (3 inch), front strap, and did the carb vent modification. We have an upcoming race on the 25th of May. First place gets $500.00. Last year another R6 took home the pot with a pass in the 8.7 range. I don't think that 8's should be a problem this time around? I was surprised to see how competitive the R6's times were with the R1's. I guess the R1's are just a handful off of the line. Then again...you could be twisting back on a Busa'.

Last weekend Team Orient Express/Yamaha factory rider Eddie Krawiec gave Yamaha it's first 600 Supersport win in Drag Racing.

Eddie's 2003 R6 was running high 9's-very low 10's all weekend in the 137mph range.

Eddie's sponsors include Yamaha, Orient Express, TiForce, Bates Leathers, Arai, World Wide Bearings, and Dynojet.

It should be noted that this is the first time a Kawi hasn't won a Super Sport ProStar national event in more than 3 years!

I went down the stripe, 1/8, for the first time last night. Granted I have a '03 R-6, stock (for now). And for a woman, I ran an 8.981 @ 94.39 mph. Not sure if that was an ok run or not. Let me know what ya think, PLEASE!!!

Thanks for the video post. Is that guy running any power adders? As for the 1/8th mile time...that's not too bad. That's actually pretty awesome considering that

a. you're a female with a R6
b. you actually raced your bike at the strip.

I have never seen a girl take a bike down the strip before. I know that my girlfriend wouldn't have a clue how to ride a bike.
