'03 rear shock rebuild?

I've got a 2003 model rear shock on my '01. I called a local suspension workshop and inquired about getting the shock rebuilt. They told me they'd fit new spring, screwed preload adjuster, new compression valving, new rebound valving and the associated checking and fitting, gassing.
The price is much less than buying an ohlins. The workshop claims they have used the modded oem shock on race bikes and works very well.

Does anyone have an opinion of rebuilding the oem shock?

How hard was it to get the '03 shock on your '01?

And any news of the possible rebuild?

How hard.
Dead set easy.
Remove lower fairings, support back of bike at frame just behind engine sump. Remove 14mm bolts which bolt shock in and drop it out the bottom.
Very, very easy. The '03 shock fits straight in, no modification neccessary.

Since this post I have had the '03 shock in my '01 completely rebuilt (resprung, screwed preload adjuster, new valve, valving setup by the guy which goes the factory yamaha team suspension, modified reservior and 5mm shorted lower linkage). I am extremely happy with the result and it cost heaps less than an ohlins or penske, and furthermore this shock is now setup exactly to MY weight which is better than an off the shelf ohlins.

Had the forks rebuilt by the same guy that did my rear. I wanted the same guy to do the front. He knows what valving is in the rear so he could balance the bike correctly.
He fitted new compression and rebound valves, springs, 5wt oil and checked over all other componenets. This guy is used by the factory yamaha team here in Australia so he knows his stuff.
Price was very reasonable and I'm very happy with the bike.
All my suspension works has completely transformed my bike. Im faster and it feels much more stable, doesnt nose dive under brakes and soaks up bumps much better.
