2nd gear noise when shifting

I have a 99' R1 with 13k miles. You hear a grinding noise when shifting to 2nd gear at high rpm's. It does this sometimes shifting to 3rd gear also at even higher rpm's.

My question is this a clutch or transmission problem? Bike was just taken from winter storage 3 weeks ago and havent changed the oil as of yet.

I would try changing your oil and see if you still have the problem. Also, when you start the bike, pull in the clutch and put the bike in gear does it lurch forward? If so, you should try adjusting your clutch.

First thing is first, change that oil.
