torquey twins
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this question...
What makes twins more torquey than other bikes? Also, how is it that the One (or any of the 4 cylinder sport bikes) is able to make so much more HP than, say, the Ducati 998 or 999?
any insight you can share would be appreciated

itz not necessarily that they make more torque... the engines just make the peak in their torque curve lower in the rpm range.
to use more torque on an inline 4, you have to get the revs up and hence, inline 4s have more problems with wheel spin and you have to "conserve your tire". the higher engine rpms eat away at a tire more quickly.

In a nut shell:
V twins
longer stroke
bigger flywheel
larger individual cylinder volume
= more torque lower max RPM's
Inline fours
shorter stroke
smaller flywheel
smaller individual cylinder volume
= higher horsepower higher max RPM's
This is really in a nutshell but I'm not prepared to get into max piston velocity's and flywheel effect etc....
