Jennings March 13 and 14.

Berk (The Turk) came up to Moroso Saturday and we are talking about doing Jennings GP in March. Berk said none of you other guys would be interested in doing Jennings because none of you really ride your R1s. He said all you other guys trailer your bikes to South Beach, unload them and sit on them to impress the girls. He said he is the only one down there who really knows how to ride.

He really didn't say that, I'm just causing trouble.

It strikes me we really have two Berks in Miami, so I was wondering who is Berker? Moto or LilR1?

Anyway if anyone is interested go to the sportbiketracktime web site for info. We are talking about going up Friday and coming back Sunday night. I think $230 for both days.

I figure Berk needs to get out of Miami anyway and check out the Geogia peaches. He's getting too well known in Miami.

I think he's riding with me up the the gap for the East Coast R1 Convention June 9 to 13th. Of course we will trailer the bikes up
there. He rode the bike last time. Scarabsport, you should try to
make the Convention if you can.

Skeeter, what about you? Ready to do a track day? I guarantee it is the most fun you've ever had on your 1. (Unless you crash of course....... but if you restrain that right hand its not likely you'll go down).

Broken R1 if you haven't tried a track day yet I guarantee you'll have fun. Come on up.

That is impressive, especially Nurburgring from what I read about it with all the cars and really experienced locals that ride there. Jennings would be tame compared to that. Fun, but tame. You ought to post on the regular Miami thread about your German track days as I am sure we would all like your impressions of doing track days there.

Yeah, I'll try a track day sometime in the future, but it's the crashing part that scares me. Dragon R1 wrecked his new '03
late in the fall at Jennings. Maybe sometime this spring/summer
I'll ride to Morroso and watch you ride. That way I can work up
my courage.

It really doesn't take much courage to do a track day. If it did I wouldn't be doing it. In novice you start out real slow, slower than the street, so you can get the feel of it and learn the lines. You first do follow the leader behind an instructor and then even when they let you go there are still strict rules in novice, usually no passing at all in the corners, and when you pass on the straight you have to stay 6 feet away from everyone else. With an R1 you are golden in novice because you can pass about anyone you want on the straights so you don't get stuck behind anyone. Some people opt to stay in Novice just so they can do their own thing.
Doing a first track day is one of those things where you get nervous about doing it until you've gone the first ten feet and then you wonder why you were nervous.
It is really about riders like you and me that just want to have fun riding without worrying about police, telephone poles, and trucks.

I just did Jennings on the 8th. I've been several times and it's a blast. Only built for motorcycles with a lot of run off and no walls. I will try to make this date. Make sure you have plenty of meat on the left side of your tire. I chew up a Diablo Corsa in a day and a half out there.

if crashing your bike scares you then you shouldnt be on one to begin with cause no matter how careful you are you will go down no matter if your on the street or on a track. the diffrence of going down on the track is that your in a more controled enviroment and the damage is likely to be less then going down on the street and nailed by a car.
I raced for a year now and ive seen some real nasty crashes and 98% of the time they will get up and walk away, you cant say the same thing if you go down on the street.

I agree 100%. On the street you have very little control over the things most likely to hurt you or kill you. Cars, trucks, trees, sand, telephone poles, oil or tranny fluid on the road, animals, police, potholes, etc., etc.

The track is undoubtedly dangerous but your brain and right hand control the danger level.

My philosophy is the perfect day riding on the street would be like this:

1. Find the twisitiest smoothest cleanest road within 500 miles.

2. Block the road off to cars and trucks.

3. Remove all the poles and trees anyone could possibly hit so if you go down you can slide forever.

4. No police allowed at all (except Solidus).

5. Have someone with an ambulance be there ... just in case.

6. Appoint someone to can yank the squids off the road if they get crazy.

7. Invite a whole bunch of riders who share your obsession with bikes and speed.

8. Get out and have fun. Go as fast or as slow as you want. The only objective is to have fun and improve your riding skill. (and talk to your buds about bikes.)

You just invented a track day. You also defined risk management... identify the potential risks and then take steps to minimize them as much as you can.

I had been planning on doing this but started thinking once I went online to buy some tickets. $255 for the two days, $130 for gas, $80 hotel for 2 nights, $200? for tires comes out to $645 unless theres something else I missed. What options do I have for tires? and would you use Dymags or stockers wheels on the track?

It ain't cheap, that's for sure.

However this weekend I'll take my girls to Universal. Same thing.
Hotel, tickets, meals, gas, tolls, souveniers. It will cost more than Jennings but Jennnings is my Islands of Adventure.

Stock wheels are no problem at all.

Tires? I don't know but you might want to call Jennings as they claim they sell Dunlops pretty cheaply. I like the Pirelli Corsas as they seem to be a good combo of traction and wear.

Just realized you have carbon wheels. Shouldn't be a problem at all but you may want to call Spotbiketracktime to verify. Ask them if they'll have any good deals on tires there while you're at it.
