How To Bleed Master Cylinder??

Hey Guys,

I replaced my stock front brake lines with SS ones. I used a vacuum bleeder and bled both lines at the calipers. I am finding, however that there is still a bit of a spongy feel at the lever and have read somewhere that the master cyclinder should be bled as well. How do you do this?? I imagine it would just be taking the cap off the resevoir and squeezing the lever back and forth slowly a couple times. Is this right?

Thanks!!

Have a buddy help you out...

Fill the resi up to full level. Close the lid. Put a towel under the calipers on each side so no brake oil gets on your wheel or tire.

If you are bleeding the front.

There is one pressure nipple on each caliper. DON'T OPEN IT... Find the nipple on each side. Find a wrench that will allow you to open it... DON'T OPEN IT.

Adjust one caliper at a time and then alternate L to R.

1. Have your pal Squeeze the front brake hard 5-6 times and hold the brake hard. I alway talk out loud to let the other guy know what you are doing. Yell BRAKE CLOSED.

2. Very Slowly open one nipple . You should see an air bubble come out. Tighten the nipple again. Yell to buddy, TIGHT., OK your turn.

3. Repeat for each caliper 3-4 times.

Same for process for rear.

You should never be spurting oil out. JUST BUBBLES AND THEN CLOSE THE NIPPLE... Adjust till you have the firmness desired.

sometimes you also have to bleed it right at the master cylinder by pumping up the brake and just cracking loose the banjo that holds the lines by the master cylinder, make sure you wrap it in lots of rags, brake fluid is VERY bad on paint

just a note sometimes i have had to ride the bike a couple days and then rebleed the normal way to get all the air out
