OK, I need help..... when i bring a standup wheelie up, i usually do it about 60mph. I usually ballance out at about 70-75. if i hit 80 or above my rear tire starts a jumpin around, and it starts to get violent, usually about an 1/8 of a mile or a lil longer into the wheelie.........anyone know why?????

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "jumpin' around", but I know that sometimes in a wheelie my bike will have what feels like headshake. Looking from behind, my friends tell me that the back tire is all over the place. I'm not sure exactly what the cause is, it could be any number of different reasons, but when it happens, it's typically at or above 110 MPH. If it happens at that speed, I just bring it down. However, if it's at a slower speed, like 80 MPH, as you mention, I just let off the throttle a bit and let the bike come down a little bit, then give throttle the wheelie back up. That tends to make the wheelie stable again.

Click the pick:

Let me add a couple of other things.

1. Do your best to line up the rear tire
2. Let the air pressure down in your rear tire to about 28psi. (raise it back up before hitting your fav twisty road!)

Y2k,

you talking about aligning the rear wheel w/ the front I take it? Does the PSI thing really help you that much? I usually ride 33/34. Had a couple of those "shimmy's" but I rode em out (luckily I guess), didn't think it was that much to worry about but as we've all seen, things happen. I definitely agree with the stay loose theory. Panicking never helps.
