Has any one in the USA had there dealer contact them about the projector head lamps on the 09 melting holes in the fering's below the lights? Mine did here in Australia, I said "no I don't have any melting in mine" but when I got home and had a close look sure enough there was 4 small melted spots. Yamaha is replacing it and fixing the lights, I was just wondering if it was the same over there.
glad to see people are getting this taken care of. but in the future guys; if you live in a dessert dont park your bike in the sun. that kinda seems like common sense to me
^^but you live in a hot climate. i heard the 10's have frosted glass on the bottom of the headlamps to stop this issue. it dosent take more then a few minutes in the right light to do the damage. if you ride in hot climates this is unfortunate side effect. at least dealers are being reasonable and understanding on this
Yeh I'm not worried about it at all. Will happen again anyway even if it was replaced. I might pop a bit of black tape under the lenses. Need to know the angle of attack from the sun though. Can anyone post up a pic of the 2010 lenses where the frosting is?
Same for me. the dealer said that the after market windscreen caused it and they will not replace the melted instrument panel on my 07 R6 with extended warranty. Yamaha needs to take responsiblity for this problem. I'm going to call the corporate office tomorrow.
I was at the dealer today and asked them to cover this under warranty.. They said they have not heard about this issue. I showed the on the 10 in the show room how the bottoms of the lights are frosted. They said they would have to take pics of the damage and send it to yamaha to see what they say.. Grrr now i gotta ride back up there tomorrow..
I told the guy at the dealership about it...he beleived me cause I've dealt with him on 4 different bikes..looked at the lights...said he would call and see if he could get one of the kits in to repair and fix it. called me the next day saying it was in.
but yeah..it is a pain having to go back up there. should be ready in about 2 hours to pick up. the lady at the counter tried to charged me $180 for it...i laughed and said "for what? this is a manufacturers default...its warranty" said ok...and zero'd out the charge
:lol I just read this thread earlier today and said to myself sucks to be these guys. My hids came in, also just today, and when I went outside I noticed that mine has some melted plastic on it :crash FML. Looks like I'll have to bring it in before I put the hids in cuz I kno they will try to give me shit otherwise. I can take pics if anybody would like :dunno
Sure no prob. It's really not that bad. If it weren't under warrenty I wouldn't cry about it and I'd let it go without replacing. But since it is why the hell not
i'm thinking to remove the glass ... it would look way better without the external one, it got another one inside ... i need to check how it impacts the light beam
Just talked to the dealership after he called a few guys. Apparently this doesn't happen to any of us in the midwest (at least nobody has reported it :dunno ) which doesn't surprise me that I'm the exception :crash the first person he talked to said they were doin the fix by applying a frosted vinyl/sticker. He thought was to "hokey" and would eventually start peeling which I'm glad he didn't settle with that. One of the next people said to replace the whole housing. So looks like I'm getting the '10 frosted housing and they are also replacing all the melted plastics :jump just waiting on parts then I can throw the hids in :hammer:
now if I could only get the cct fixed also.... :crash

Speak for yourself. I have it going on with my 09 right now and I live in Wisconsin. Dealership is looking into it at the moment. I should be hearing back soon.
Here are some pics i took with the phone. I have better/actually clear ones on the camera but that would require me to hook it up to a computer
here you can see 2 burn marks right next to each other in the gray area
you can't really see it in this one but it's just to the right of the light reflection
also note that in each of the light marks/reflections is where the paint is starting to become wavy. I doubt you'll be able to see it though with these pics :crash
**in the 1st and 3rd pic the wavy marks are just to the right of the reflection
I'll have to post up those good pics from my camera soon
