Just got word from a GM at a Yamaha dealer. He is an old friend who sent me an email about the 2010 cct. He indicated it is improved and will fit the 09 (of course). I will call him tmrw and post more then....:crash

YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION U.S.A.
Mike, thanks for your post. Please call Yamaha Customer Relations at 1-800-962-7926 and they should be able to answer your question about your R1. Thanks!

thats the comment I got on Facebook from yamaha. I just called the number...got my name, address, and VIN # said "oh there is no recall or TSB on your model" I then began to tell the guy that I have spoken to my dealer mechanic and he knows theres an issue. And I have spoken with countless numbers of people that have the 09 R1 and are also experiencing this issue. We are all just trying to figure out if and when Yamaha is going to recognize it and issue a true fix for it. He then told me that I would have to speak to a "product specialist" but they are out to lunch right now...if I could call back in 1 hour they could help me out. Its 2:15 central time right now. So at 3:15 ill be calling back. Lets get an influx of calls to them and make them get on the ball!

just called em back and talked to the product specialist. not sure of his name. But he basically told me yamaha doesnt recognize it. They recognize a noise...but no issues at all. He said if it worried me I was welcome to take it to a dealership and have it replaced...but when I asked about the "updated part" he said there is no record of the part being updated. Then told him about the forum and TONS of people on the 09 are having this issue. but not hearing of many '10's having the noise...so something is different. I dont want to waste my time getting the same defective part only to have an updated part show up 2 months down the line. I then informed him about the technician update that was mentioned and again he said its just a noise and they are not issuing a fix because of a noise. then he told me I'm more then welcome to purchase a 4 year warranty for $900 if i'm that worried about it or in case some other issue happens like a bent rod or something.... I can't get em to fix a known noise now...I ain't gonna give em another $900 to just give me the run around when something else happens

my dealer said he was at a tech seminar last month and they are currently working on a updated part but no date was given as to its release. it seems like everyone has a different story so its hard to tell what to believe. he said they would replace mine if i wanted but it would be the same part and recommend waiting for the updated version

Damn R1Stang, this is just bs... I say more of us need to flood that facebook website. I already have following suit after you guys. I'm gonna start a thread on the general discussion for people to post something on their facebook site...

I had the same response when I posted a ? re fuel efficiency. They would save a shitload of time and money if they just had engineers trawling this and other Yamaha forums. Their FB person is just a marketer (says the social media mgr.) I mean duh. If you're head of engines, or electronics, or trannys (hehe, trannys!) then part of your job description should be keeping an eye on the mechanical section of the major forums.

and a phone call? are you ****ing kidding me??? I just reported USAA, the greatest company ON EARTH to the BBB because they had some stupid glitch in their rewards system and the best they could offer me was to book a flight over the phone. As if. Of course they finally found a software engineer and she called me to let me know she was on it, then she fixed it before the BBB could even get moving. It's 2010, people, don't make me pick up the phone unless it's to send an email.

We need to flood their FB page with demands that SOMEONE in Engineering start paying attention to the forums! Companies listen to rants on twitter & facebook, but that's not the same. On here it's not just rants, but people with real expertise and years of experience with these bikes. I'm on my THIRD R1 for chrissake.

i doubt they even pay attention to that site. its probably a robot that post up the daily comment...and is auto programmed to leave a comment of "call the service desk at this number" etc etc if anyone post something on the wall

we need to get as many people as we can that have the 09...and the 10's if they have the issue too. to call that service desk number and complain about the CCT and demand an actual fix for it and not just a "replacement with the same defective part"

I feel ya!!! I've worked at several dealerships, and nothing piss' me more than a dealership with blinders on. The typical, "we don't know about the product we sell." Most of these damn places only give a shit about a Polaris 4x4 anyways, so their vested interest is absolute 0 for sportbikes and their owners needs. Sportbikes are pretty much bottom rung at dealers these days, so they have very little concern with keeping up with all product lines, much less tech stuff.......try and get a race weekend off at the 'usual' dealership and you'll probably get fired!!!:whtfu:

Hi people, new to the forum I finally decided to register after reading for years, I have an 09 r1 and the headlight projector was melting my front fairing and the grills so took it to the dealer and the only thing Yamaha replaced was the cheap grills $15 a piece, so I called Yamaha and they said that's all they'll pay for so at the end the actual problem wasn't fixed, it's fuc*%d up to that after 4 new Yamahas in 3 years that's how they show their gratitude... Bastards. Anyone else whit the same deal?

#117 ·
go to another dealership. My dealership replaced the black melted pieces plus put the "frosting" decals on the headlights to keep it from happening. Tried to charge me..but I just told them it was a manufacturers defect and its under warranty...they said ok..and shredded the bill

#119 ·
yes you can as long as the bike is still under the original 1 year manu warranty. resale does not matter.

if you search yamaha warrantys on ebay you can buy one from a dealer in michigan or wisconsin (or something close enough to) for like 390. your stealerships are robbing you.

btw its legit, i did it with both my honda and yami, and i took them in under both extended warrantys

In order for Yamaha to put frosted lenses on they have to replace the whole headlight unit, a couple of stickers ain't gonna cut it, I personally called Yamaha Motors after finding out they were only replacing the plastic grills wich is the black piece that sorrounds the projector lens cover, they told me that's all they're paying for, so now it's melting the plastic again. If Yamaha is not gonna step up to the plate about this problem an the CCT they should at least extend the warranty for free like Honda when having problems with oil burning on the CBR... Life time warranty, at least they stand behind their products. Last time I buy a FU%#+NG Yamaha...

Okay people; we should try to do something about the headlight problem, we should pick a date and time to call Yamaha in California and tell them to replace the headlight for the actual rite piece ( frosted lenses ) obiously the stickers and just replacing the grills does not correct the problem, maybe when there's enough of us to call yamaha the same day they will take this aproach more seriously. What do you guys think ? It's worth the try! I didn't expend over 43 thousand in yamaha products in the past 4 years for nothing. ( 06 r6r- 07 r1- 09 r6r- 09 r1 )....

hes off today will be back tomorrow ill give him a ring then. just got off the phone with yamaha and they said that when a updated part is available that i will get it replaced even if out of warranty since the problem was logged previously. somethin about customer good faith guarantee so i feel a little better about that just as long as its not just another line of bs. all else fails once the new cct is out ill just have to purchase one. 120 is pretty cheap for peace of mind that my motor isnt gonna lock up at 150

yeah called them a few weeks ago...biggest waste of my time ever. They took my VIN and everything but the guy was a douche and basically said "yeah..its gonna make a noise..yamaha doesnt care..it wont hurt anything..they aint fixing what aint broken"

I've dealt with Kane for 4 bikes...2 cruisers, 2 yamahas and My dads old royal Star venture...Kane messed with that thing forever trying to get it to stop backfiring. he was the only person that could figure it out after 3 dealerships and many mechanics. Never charged a dime. Claimed it all as warranty work
