This is the best news i heard this month, i was so close to buy a used r1m but seeing this now, WOW it is amazing how little redesign can do to the whole look, i never could look pass the odd look of the previous model but this one is just perfect. The angels, the carbon, the led, the profile look, sharp and functional, i am in love.
Power remains unchanged at a claimed 197bhp, the bike receives updated finger-follower rocker arms and new cam lobes,
The bike also gets a new three-mode Engine Braking Management unit, that allows riders to adjust the severity of engine braking (high, medium or low).
Euro5-compliant 998cc crossplane crank engine has been reworked to include a new intake system, complete with new 10-hole Bosch fuel injectors for a wider spray angle giving a more efficient burn.
R1M 26K, S1000RR M 24K. While the bmw needed CF wheels and other stuff to get to the weight of the r1.. it now comes with CF wheels, cruise (IK just saying), and a bunch of other options for less money. And yes we don't really need more power, but that is going to get old saying that in the straight away when the BMW walks us badly. A lot of the dyno vids are showing the bmw with no tune making 190's to low 200's whp. Even after Nick does his thing we are lucky to get to the stock BMW numbers. Basically if I turn my R1 into a ball at the track its really going to be about if I have enough money to get the BMW. I can't, at this point, see a win for 2020 R1M over the BMW.
I personally know a rider who much prefers his old 2015 RR to his newly-purchased 2020 model).
There are also reports of the carbon-fiber wheels cracking and clunking from the forks.
Maybe so and I get that, but other bike forums are still pretty active This one just seems particularly dead. I subscribe to the R1 group on Facebook as well and it's no comparison to an active forum of passionate users.
I was wondering the same thing. I have owned many sport bikes over the years from Hondas, Kawasakis, Triumphs and for the last 8 years two S1000RR's. I always admired Yamaha but never owned one in any form. I purchased my 2018 earlier this year and really love it, yet the enthusiasm for this bike or the brand in general is the lowest I've ever seen. It's so low it's weird. I even started searching for the "other" R1 forum thinking this must be the dead one. Nope..seems this is it. Like I said, truly weird. There must be 1000+ posts and a half dozen new threads regarding the new S1000RR, and even a thread on the new R1, on the S1000RR forum. Whats happened to the R1 community?
I don’t guys but for those who talk about no increases in power??!! Do we really need that? Like the power now on all the liter bike is way way beyond any of us, seriously how much do u want ? 300 hp will be okay with u? I guess if we reached that number there will be still people say it is not enough, for me all i wanted was a little redesign for the R1 and thanks God i didn’t rush and bought any bike in front of me, the new R1/R1M is epic.

Yamaha used to be ahead of the curve.. maybe they are and Euro 5 is just that horrible...but the competition wasnt sleeping for the last few years.
Maybe Yamaha is just trolling us.. and they will release a 410lb R1 220hp for 20K..
Facebook groups have their place. But I've already been able to find more reliable information on a forum than a FB Group. At least people here will attempt to help you, rather than just troll you to death. I've already learned a lot from reading various threads on here since I purchased my 06' R1.
As for the new 2020, I really like the subtle redesign of it. The no additional power doesn't really kill it for me as it would already have more than my 06'. And mine has more than I'd ever need. But it's all a little moot anyways, as I couldn't afford a new one.
Sticking to the thread topic, ( The 2020 R1 ) It will only ever be low scale change until a "SHIFT IN DESIGN " occurs. That is regarding Fundamental change,I haven't seen that for 30 years when the conformity of 17 inch wheels happened. Basic wheelbase dimension, steering geometry, weight bias is still similar,Yamaha engineers are governed by principle ,that is "Design a reliable, street legal sport bike to a price point".Traction control,ABS,IMU have all been slotted in through the years but Fundamental design hasn't shifted for a long time.
This is a fascinating read.
Well to start, I put down and bought the first new R1 from the local dealer. I also plan on going for coffee occasionally and not for the long ride. I’m not sure this makes me some sort of persona non grata that you seem to proclaim though. First off, I haven’t owned a bike in 20 years and bought this because my old sales rep now works at the dealer. I was so happy to see her I said “sure” and ordered one. This is a lot of bike and while I was competent on my old zx7r I certainly wasn’t a pro. I just want to run around and I just can’t imagine doing it on some goofy Harley or such. Anyways, you shouldn’t bash a guy that just wants to go grab coffee. That guy bought the bike and keeps Yamaha going for you hard core guys. And, frankly, you never know. That guy might even be a pro driver. . Well, race car but a pro nonetheless. I don’t bash Bug or maca guys for not knowing how to drive. I try to help them along. I certainly don’t flex my track times.
There's nothing wrong with buying a premium product if that's what one wants even without some other tangible benefit for doing so. Economically sound, perhaps not, but it's relative to what one has. I have a friend that buys the absolute cheapest of everything ("they say it's the best bang for the buck!" okay but does it have the features you actually desire, and what relation do "they" have to you?), and have watched the resulting frustration/dissatisfaction, which I consider to be a waste of money.
I notice the new bike has wheels and handlebars, wonder if it comes with reverse gear and a stereo.PLEASE,PLEASE ANYBODY start talking about the thread topic ,THE 2020 R1.
Once people start getting their hands on them we will get some proper reviews. Personally, I love the look of the new R1M. Looks way more like the M1 and all that carbon fibre... beautiful.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
