Yes - There is some interesting stuff on the internet about balancing a IL4 crossplane, which i didn't know about until I did an in-depth search last week - I previously was into balancing & modifying Honda IL4 (car) engines. I was surprised at how different a IL4 CP is in terms of balancing - and with the overall weight reduction of th 2015+ R1 (thinner lighter crank cases) the margin for "errors" is small - one REALLY needs to know what you are doing (and IMHO have access to some really expensive engineering resources)

Some crankshafts you balance just the crank itself and then match weights on the rods n pistons. Some you have to balance factoring in weights of pistons n rods. Some you have to make actual weights and bolt them in place of the rods and spin it up but it varies between what engine builder you use, some have a different calculation of what the weights should be. There's equations they use to factor how much of the pistons and rods need to be balances out on the crank and how much is like free weight? It's alot of info and I don't think I could learn it all unless it was something I went into and was doing it everyday with someone teaching me. I just know enough to know when they guy I'm talking to shouldn't be touching my engines.
