one Tenth slower than the Yamaha boys on his first day... And he spent the whole day riding the 2016 bike.

One tenth slower than Vinales, who has 2 years in the championship and the same amount of saddle time.

I wouldn't be shouting Lorenzo's name from every hilltop quite yet :P

So what do the Lorenzo "riding style" experts have to say about today's performance?

Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised Lorenzo is adapting to the Ducati well. I've posted on here many times I'm a big Lorenzo fan. Not of his attitude at times, but of his riding. His wet weather performance the last rain round made me gain some respect back for him as well. A Lorenzo that can perform in the wet, is just as dangerous as a Marquez that can keep it on 2 wheels.

Him adapting to the Ducati is a sign of a true champion as well. On paper, him and that Ducati should not gel right off the hop. The Ducati is a point and shoot kind of bike, to which Lorenzo is the opposite with his crazy corner speed (which is why his wet weather riding suffers). But obviously Gigi is the genius many think he is, because he's already making that bike work for Jorge.

I can't wait to see Honda off the podium in some races next year.

I've said all along he wasn't going to have any problems with the Ducati. Gigi and Lorenzo won championships together @ Aprilia. Never thought it would be an issue.

But this is testing and people always read way into who is first, second, etc. They are testing parts. For example, Rossi's fast time today was set very early on, lap 11 of 47. So the rest of the day was spent evaluating x, y, z. Times at this point don't mean shit. At the last test before Qatar, they'll mean something.

Lorenzo may very well stomp the field at Qatar. Just too early to tell anything about anyone. My $ would be on Marquez for 2017 with a sorted engine.

They need to take those wings off.

Not allowed this season but he was testing with them on.

But at the end of the day, JL is very fast.

Heretic! One cannot simply Yamaha and Honda at the same time.

“If you are always pushing at the limit you get a better feeling with the bike and give better information to the mechanics,” he says. “If I crashed 27 times, I was very close to crashing maybe 50 times! That gives me a feeling with the bike – you understand many things, what crashes you can save and so on.”-MM93

Lorenzo spent all day testing the GP16, apparently only Dovi tested the GP17 late in the afternoon.
Ducati decided to have wings on both bikes to limit variable between the GP16 & GP17

Rossi had a big crash on the 2017 bike, which severely limited how much testing they could do on the new bike. He blamed the front tyre, and isn't very impressed with the 2017 engine.

It didn't take Vinales long to get up to speed on the 2016 M1!

A lot of teams were doing that, if they had riders new to the team who had ridden with winglets previously. For example, Aleix Espargaro was riding with winglets on the RSV-GP, but Sam Lowes wasn't. Ianone was using them on the GSX-RR, but Alex Rins wasn't.

HRC wasn't using winglets at all, factory or satellite, from what I could see.
