I am trying to alighn my rear wheels, the string method is to confusing for me. How do i eye down the sproket to see if it is going straight? also my sporcket seems to ride the inside of the chain more then the out side, which way would I want to adjust the rim to center teh chain? thanks

I dont get the string method either :lol
Here is how I do it at home.
I put the bike on the rear stand.
I pull the tire back to take up the slack on the chain and tighten it up a bit.
I then rotate the tire looking down the length of the chain and see how the rear sprocket is ridding on the chain.
I adjust the tire so the sprocket rides straight on the chain and tichten everythign up.

That will get ya pretty damn close :)

easiest way is to measure from a consistant point.
myself, i use the swingarm pivot with the bike on a rear stand.
Measure from the center of the swingarm pivot shaft back to the center of the rear axle. Make it the same on both sides. If you want to get crazy you can make a jig to help, but i'm to lazy for that.
