ok a friend of mine is going to MMI ( Motorcycle Mechanics Institute) for yamaha.. well i crashed my bike a few months ago ( 04 R1 ) i crashed at about 65mph.. after the bike flipped down the street and landed in a parking spot it was still running( shouldnt it of Died)? well we pulled the codes off the bike and looked them up .. hes tellin me i need the tip over sensor and that its gonna cost me 170 bucks. that doesnt sound right.. is there a way of Disableing it without hurting anything? im sure stunters bypass it for their 12 a clock wheelies am i right? anyone know how to do this?

yes.. u can take it apart.. it has little pendulum with magnet on it.. take small dab of silicon and put it on the pendulum to keep it from moving.. then you wont have problem. or you can measure resitenance betwee it.. and just cut it off and solder in resistors of correct value.. cant remeber what it is.. but its easier to unplug it.. then is will come apart. make sure and silicon it in correct position... or bike wont start..

I would not remove this item...and you right it should have cut the bike out, maybe not during the fall but definitely when it stopped...if you put the bike on it's side and it keeps on running, no good.....even when racing I keep that safety circuit in.

I guess everyone weighs their pros and cons differently.

How far over does the bike need to lay before it cuts out? Does it need to be completely horizontal in every direction to kill the motor? Does it kill the motor instantly or do you have to sustain a certain angle for it to die? Any instance of someone crashing from doing a wheelie and having the engine shut off suddenly?

I've had both my 04 and 05 R1's vertical never a problem, my 05 on the race track, cranked over to the limit of the front tyre, never a problem:boobies

mine is fixed so it doesnt cut out, but i have tether kill switch i use at track. if i fall off it kills bike. yes falling over and bike running is not good deal ever. but most of time bike will die... most of time. not all.
