I have an 04 r1 with no low end power. when i full throttle it in first gear at low rpm, there is a lag. i thought it was a yamaha thing. then the other day i got on a brand new 06 r1 the power is all there. Any idea what the problem is?

gutted cat and race baffle only. no mod other than that. could it be the tps?

No...it's doubtful it's the tps.

Owned the bike from day one? Just buy it?

The 06 does have a slight bump in compression, and being newer the piston rings are probably in better shape. I have an 06 and it was weak down low so i changed the gearing and now it's wonderful.

you have to take all the plastic off and drop the radiator to get access to the spark plugs then remove one of the plugs and screw in a compression guage and bump the engie over might be some thing you want to take to the shop if your not mechanicly inclined not an insalt but some of these things can set you back more than help you.
