'04 Recall? Dealer left me a message...

1804 Views 28 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Skate2
I haven't got a chance to call my dealer back yet, but his message said I needed to bring my bike back in to get the motor mount re-torqued. Have any of you guys heard about this? This should be nothing major, at all, but just wondering what's up.

Mods should ban these guys...... posting :bs

No offense but if you have a question post it but why the recall bs???
I did hear that. dont know if its a legit "recall" or just :bs
I would think that with the Dealers that we have as members, they would be the first to know??

how did you hear about that imagine?
Someone else's thread on here. They said it was an official recall or something...Although, dont quote me, I just thought someone else started a recall thread like this and it was totally serious.
yes it is a recall, however i do not know if the word has really spread. They are supposed to check the rear engine mount bolts if i remember correctly, and they are calling all owners to come in as a precautionary measure. Something about the heat shield possibly slipping down during assembly and getting caught and causing the mount to not be tightened all the way.
It is legit, and also no big deal.

Some dealers do know about it.

Today I was talking to one about getting one in the crate (I have done that on my last 3 bikes) and he said no way since they have (what he termed) 2 technical bulletins that they will no longer allow that.

They were the break in deal, and one for the engine mount bolts. This was their sales manager and he did not have the full detail, but initiallly said they where coming loose, but its much more likely they just left loose.
Did you get charged the so called "prep fee"? If you did then this should've been checked by the dealer during set up...

If they did charge you a prep fee it should be on some sort of reciept and all the things they did should be checked off...Usually it involves checking cetain bolts and making sure they are torqued to specifications......However, I've seen alot of bikes set up with the "technician" just checking off without actually doing the work...

If you did get charged the prep fee and you notice that checking the torque was on the list and it was checked off you should POINT it out to the dealer.....Ask for a copy of the recall bulletin........Then LOOK THEM IN THE EYE and ask them why you were charged a prep fee if the work wasn't done:rant .....Then sit back and WATCH THEM STUTTER.

Then politely ask for the prep fee to be refunded to you...I've seen prep fees as high as $600 and really all they do is fill it with oil and add on the components that aren't already on the bike when it's in the crate....A 30 minute job or an hour at most if they actually do all the stuff on the list....I've heard all kinds of BS as to why they charge such a high fee...I've heard some say that the grease the linkages, wheels, and that they have to assemble the entire bike....All BS...

This is a very serious matter for the dealer...It is called FRAUD and they can face serious consequences for things like this...If they charge you for work they didn't do it's also called THEFT....Don't let them get out of stuff like this.

It cant qualify as a recall as all dealers preparation consist, among other things,to check that.

They are just being lazier as years go by and just dont check anything, but charge $2-300 for it.

HEY R1 LOVER...why are you yelling???

My dealer used the words "recall" in his voice mail to me. He simply said he had a recall notice and he wanted me to call him. If you can't handle that, too bad.
There is NO RECALL on any R1 of any year, especially on the 04!!!
Now there is a specific range of units that need to be checked for motor mount torque. Is what happened is the heat shield between the tank and throttle bodies may have been in between the frame and motor when the bolts were torqued down. Just so you know the torque is 33ft lbs. Well a piece of rubber there isn't great for toque readings so Yamaha wants the dealers to check specific units, #9-2380 and Cali models #5-684. Again this is NOT a recall! just somehting the dealers need to check.
Just got off the phone with my dealer. The motor mounts behind the head need to be torqued to 33 Ft. Lbs. In some cases, part of the airbox slipt between the bolts and the head which caused a torque problem. I had installed frame sliders on those bolts, and mine were OK.

Just thought some of you guys might like to know the torque specs.
