Hey all,

There's been a previous posting (long ago, now) regarding converting the running lights on the '04 R1 to turn signals with a bit of rewiring.

I just wanted to let anyone interested in doing this mod know that lightlens.com sells amber LED bulbs that can be used to directly replace the white incadenscent running light bulbs.

These replacement bulbs consist of a cluster of 4 amber LEDs. They are MUCH brighter than the stock bulb, and with the amber color are much more appropriate for use as a turn signal. Also, they are completely colorless when not illuminated, so unlike colored-glass incandescent bulbs they don't change the look of the headlight cluster.

Anyway, if you're interested, the product number is LED194SA. Here's a link. They're pricy ($20), but should last for the life of the bike.

BTW, I don't represent lightlens.com in any way - I'm just trying to be helpful.

Oh, one more thing - because these are LEDs they only work when installed in the socket with the correct polarity, so if you get a pair and they don't seem to work, make sure to flip them around.

My buddy had his turn signals on his 02R1 integrated into the running lights. The best part it was able to pass state inspection bucause his signal lights up in a yellow light.

www.superbrightleds.com has the same Led's! They have them with six leds and ones with four. The six should be brighter. And they are much cheaper. They also are clear when not on. Happy shopping

Good find :thumbup . They certainly are A LOT cheaper. One possible advantage of the lightlens bulbs is that everything, including the base, is colorless, which is not true of the superbrightled bulbs (which have a yellow plastic base). Also its possible the lightens bulbs use higher efficiency LEDs, and thus they might be brighter (As a former semiconductor & optics engineer, I can tell you that all LEDs are NOT created equal). Still, none of that would seem to justify the huge price difference.

When you say they are colorless when not blinking, do you mean they are white running lights? Does the bulb actually go from white to amber to white etc. ? Just wondering, thanks.:thumbup

Yes, All LED's that I have seen are clear when not lite.

I just ordered the lightlens ones yesterday.. Jeez.. now I'm all shook u p at finding them at a cheaper price..
$hit... well too late to do anything about it now.. Ijust hope you guys are right.. and for some miraculous reason.. they are better, and brighter.

OH well that's better. I dont have a problem with the price.. IF THEY ARE BRIGHT.. AND WORK WELL.. That's not my issue.. I just hate the fact that you buy one.. and the very next day.. someone posts the "same" light.. and it's fives times cheaper, and works the same....

Yep, that's it. The only trick is that, since LEDs are diodes and only pass current in one direction, you need to put them in the socket in the correct orientation. Basically, stick 'em in. If they don't work, flip 'em 180 degrees.

Also.. I just recieved an email saying that I have somehow ordered (4) FOUR bulbs and the price has gone from 20 to 40 dollars... That is a mistake yes?? Or is there 4 buulbs that fit in there?? I thought it was only 2??

On they're site, the product number includes two bulbs already. When ordering, only order 1. 1 = 2 bulbs. Maybe give them an email and let them know it was a misunderstanding. And yes I know I asked, but answer still seems unclear. These lights, their on all the time right? Just turn from white running light to amber turn light. The one guy said yes they are clear when not lite? Does that mean they are not lite when not flashing? Sorry again, just don't want to waste the money if they don't act like running lights as well.:thumbup

I have the exact same problem. I ordered 2 sets (2 x 2 bulbs - need to fit them to two R1's ), and here's what I get:
