Hello All,

My 2009 R1 was recently stolen while I was at work no less after having it for almost 2 months. Now I'm looking to replace it. I'm leaning towards a 15+ this time around if I can find a good deal. If not at least a 2012 -14 this time.

Just curious what direction you all would go and is there anything to look out for on the 15+ models?

the 15's had the transmission recall. some of the 16's had valve spring issues but they were at low miles so if you find one above 6-7 thousand miles then it has already passed the test of time. the 15+ is slightly less comfortable for some people the seat is a lot thinner so if your using it mainly for commuting thats something to consider.

I've had my 15 R1 since new. Had the transmission recall done, at my local stealership, and have had zero issues. It's rock solid and I've done both track days and street riding. Don't let anyone scare you off of it.

Yea I would second that, no issues from mine everything has been beautiful BUT people love to complain and talk smack. I'm surprised no one has chimed in yet. There was even a guy on here who had the recall done then saw a dent in one of his oil pipes so he went back and freaked out on them only to find out that it has a dent in it from factory to allow a wrench by it to get to the bolt underneath. People...

That sucks. I assume your insurance company has been good to you?
Happy shopping. I will get a '15+ one day.
But I'm still in love with the '02/'03 examples. Plenty fast and comfy as a sports bike can be.

Thanks everyone for the input. I ha s my eye on an 18’ at a dealership hoping it’s still available. It’s almost brand new and they are asking for 12.9. Steal would be an understatement. It’s almost too good to be true. It’s blue also not all black.

Out of curiosity what state are you in or looking close to you for a bike? Selling my baby since I’m re-enlisting 2013 team Yama blue. I also posted it on the forum. I hope the insurance company comes through for you in the best way possible.

Quick update.

Dallas police found the bike in one piece. Idiot was arrested and didn’t even take my license plate off just the stickers are gone. Needs a new ignition and keys. However I already had decided on a 2016 I found a good deal on with just a tick over 1,000 miles. I’m heading up to Oklahoma to pick up this weekend having already paid the dealership a healthy amount they agreed to hold it.

The 2009 is being repaired and will be sold.

Based on my experience, if any of my vehicles are stolen, I always hope they don't find it. Congrats on the new ride.

I was definitely hoping for that but it’s cool.

So how does that work then? Did you have to give the insurance money back? Hopefully they covered a good amount of the damage the thief did.

They are paying for the repairs to the 09 since it was found. I bought the 16 outside of this claim.

If mine was ever stolen I not only hope I don't get it back but that the POS who stole it dies on it sliding underneath a gas truck and burns to death slowly. :fire
