Anyone happen to flip on speed vision last night? They had a great show on the "in the process" review of ths R1 - kent kunitsugu, trevitt, rich oliver - bascically a whole bunch of motorcyle guys, racers included. cool show and some nice cornering footage of the bike - amazing.

also, "cycle news" has a great article on riding the bike- track and street. they come to the same conclusion: great fuel injection and excellent overall package. They've gone as far as to call it "the best street bike to date" the only thing they complained about was how the tank was situated in terms of gripping with your legs on the track - but on the street they called it "hands down the best canyon carver"

next month will be a literbike shootout so watch out;

Yea Scud, I saw it aswell. It was pretty kewl 2 C the R1 on tv. Did U C when they were on the track wit 3 R1's and one of the riders went down and lowsided on a brand new R1! That was crazy, and then the rider just kept going! If u missed it, I beleive they will reply that episode this week. Awesome show, but I enjoyed the FIM Supersport race the most!!!

laughing...

I heard that comment and couldn't make any fucking sense of it!!!:confused:

anyhow - i have a feeling Dave was referring to the revisions in 2000 - I know there weren't many changes, but maybe he was talking about the revisions they planned in 99 for the 2000 update. who knows.

oh, and yeah, I saw that low side - saw that poor bike and rider go sliding right off the track...I didn't see, did they comment on the tires? I'm curious to know if they were on 208s - only because one criticism on the CYCLE NEWS was the characteristics of the 208s....on the track the just weren't even close - 3rd gear on a coasting throttle and the tire just broke loose for no reason - evidently rich oliver was following the guy and just said he didn't do anything wrong, the tire just couldn't handle it and was beyond its cpaability.

After watching BikeWeek did u get 2 C Motorcyclist? They did a comparision of a Gix1000 againts the Z06 Corvette. They had Kevin Schwantz drive both vehicles and of course the bike won! But did U C when they were talking about tires they were gonna use, The mich Pilots M-2, supposedly the softest compound street tire out on the market. Is this true, R mich Pilot's the way 2 go?

The corvette vs. Gix was funny as hell. Everyone knows that a bike will smoke a car, but it was funny to see that in the 0-100-0 comparison, the bike was stopped before the vette hit 100. The commentator even said you could stop and take off your helmet and hang out before the vette stopped.

For a way better written review, go the April Roadracing World. Color pics, full specs (although they incorrectly print the NM number instead of ft-lb re:torque). I've given up on the lame bike shows on Speed. Just give me the racing..... My $.02 ;)

hmmmm.....

the key word is RACE car....and yes an actual RACE car will most likely beat a bike - There are exceptions obviously, and I'm sure this will spark a wonderful debate bla bla bla...but bottom line is a RACE car has a very good shot at winning...notice they used a vette and not a McLaren F1 or Michael Schumachers F1 ride - obviously the outcome would have been different.

:bs Perhaps the outcome would have been different. But the whole point of the comparison was to show that for what the average american can buy as far stock performance machines, the bike kicks ass all day. Your average person certainly cannot buy an F1.

i totally agree...

I never said I disagreed did i? what I DID SAY however was "I'll probably spark some bullshit debate" and I'd like to thank you for proving my point....saddle up boys and girls- here we go.

First, "perhaps" is a very little perhaps - If you truly believe an F1 car cannot outperform the vast overwhelming majority of sportbikes out there, you are probably riding with chicken strips on your tires and probably believe your stock R1 can easily top 200 MPH and on it, you can probably make Freddie Spencer cry too...

In the real world on the other hand: All those zillion dollar suspension solutions and engine work really does add up to quite breathtaking performance - and HEY, I'm a bike guy - I LOVE when cars costing many times the price of a bike get spanked by "inexpensive" sportbikes.... Sadly, it probably wouldn't happen in the above scenario though.

Someone posted a great physics lesson a while ago and if I was concerned enough to find it, it would really come in handy here because it would dispell alot of myths. Seriously - I agree sportbikes can dog most any stock car - but the question was RACE car - and when you cross that line, the bike loses alot of advantage.
