Why?? :dunno

Are you going to race? If so then go ahead. If not, then there is no real need for it.

Sprocket specialists has them available, however unless you intend to service the sprockets/chain (i.e. replace) regularly; I wouldn't suggest the conversion. As your aware the 04’ has an increase in horsepower, this increase exceeds the current tensile strength range of existing 520-chains. (Including the ERV2)

At present my street bikes are equipped with high quality 530 chains/sprockets, my race bikes are equipped with high quality 520 chains/sprockets; on average I replace/inspect the sprockets/chains on the 520 configuration per every 20-hours of operation.

Thanks!

i agree with vpreatr... i tried a 520 kit on my old R1 and road it mostly street with some track days... i had to replace 3 front and 4 rear sprockets in a year, so i went back to 530... not worth it for street riding.. just my opinion

Stick w/ the 530. Go up 1 or 2 on the rear, less stress on the bike...

might I ask why the thing needs more punch?

I'd like to hear some feedback from someone that has dropped one off the front on this bike. From all the talk about tall gearing (100+ first gear) I'm thinking about dropping one in the rear as well.

Thoughts?

No, you drop one in the front and drop one in the rear so it has the overall effect of adding 1.5 in the back. Makes perfect sense, don't it

Something had to be wrong to go through that many sprockets in a yr unless you rode 100,00 plus miles........

Yeah. My mistake - I meant to drop one in front/add one in the rear. To get just a bit more. Kinda like dropping 1 1/3 off the front.

Sounds like you were running a 520 sprocket with a 525 chain. That was what happened on my Duc but only the rear sprocket for now

Did you replace the sprockets and continue to use the same chain within that year?? if so theres the answer to your own question as to why they went bad so quickly.

I need to chime in here.. I havent ridden the R1 yet, but from what I have read... Why do you need to make it accelerate faster? Do you really need to make it wheelie easier? 3rd gear rollers arent good enough???
