I live in Sherman Oaks and its been getting down to the low 30's at night and i went out yesterday to start it and it wouldn't catch....took it out and put it in the sun and after a couple of hours I went out and it started......this morning tried the same thing...wouldn't catch and so i put it out in the sun but to know avail.

The battery is not that old and I recently had it serviced at Crago Racing....I have had this issue before but not for a couple of years.

Many '09+ R1's do this when cold, the only thing that has prevented this 100% of the time on my '12 R1, was charging the battery with a Battery Tender for 1-1/2 hours before attempting a cold start. Bike would start instantly every time, where otherwise it would take 2-3 separate attempts. The weak smallish sized stock battery is the real issue IMO.

Same thing happens with my 2014. She starts up after the 2nd or 3rd consecutive crank.

Having this issue myself.
Starts a lot sooner holding the throttle open a little the first time.
No issues once it's been running.

BATTERY + full time tender = 09 - 14 start up when cold!
