Anyone here had success swapping a 2020 engine into a 2015? Any tips and etc would be appreciated. What's all needed to transfer from 2020 to 2015?

I have already the 2020 engine, ECU and Harness.



My 15 engine is making a rattling sound(not a knocking sound). Sound does mostly go away when you rev it steady at a rpm. Bike starts up perfectly fine, no back fire no smoke or leak anywhere.

The Shop adjusted valves to specs. They checked compression(210 on #1,2&3. 205 on #4). Cam chain and tensioner are perfectly fine. No metal shaving and discoloration when oil was drained. The sound is still there after valves adjustments and all tests. He said it's definitely the rod then. It's just on it's way out(boom).

Any more info on this? Is it possible to tune a 2020 engine properly using the RN32/RN49 throttle boddies/airbox/injectors?

I have a blown 2019 engine, not possible to get a new RN49 engine any more unfortunately.
If 2020+ electronics is needed to do the engine swap, it's suddenly way more expensive; i.e. wiring harness, ECU, dashboard, airbox required. (possibly fuel tank as well?)

if you ONLY swap the motor and use all the earlier throttle bodies, air box, injectors blah blah then its just a simple swap. if you want to use the 20+ ecu and harness then you need the complete throttle bodies and airbag with it. i would just swap the motor. the tune for just a motor swap will not need a retune but you could do one to optimize it. the motor is essentially the same it just has some durability improvements.

I’ve the same problem with that annoying ticking sound. Everyone is telling me it’s the Yama tick but are you sure it’s the rods?

No he's not. It's just what a tech said and most of them are full of shit. Yamaha have valve ticking clutch basket noise and transmission clatter. Lots of shit makes noise on these bikes

Just had my bike dyno’d at PCR on Monday after doing the 2020/2 conversion on my 15. Happy with those results, especially since it was dyno’d using a SC0 rear slick. Would be interesting to see how it compares to the old engine since it’s making slightly more power now.
