I believe it's to help reduce the back pressure as well as provide for a post combustion expansion chamber. It probably helps to smooth out the exhaust gasses so they aren't so abrupt and provides for a smoother exhaust flow.

I'm kicking around the idea of going with full exhaust on my YZ450F, but I have a difficult time justifying it, especially when the '07 stock exhaust is pretty good. Maybe if I get into racing, I'd consider it further.

any1 like to elaborate on th principal behind it?
Ahhh yes FMF's Powerbomb chamber. One it acts like a small muffler that will lower the sound level slightly.

Also they say that from there dyno tests and measurements it increases power by increasing the rate in which the header can flow.

The theory behind it is ---> hot exhaust gas enters the larger volume chamber and expands and then cools which causes it to contract. This expansion and contraction actually speeds up the exhaust gas travel through the header. It also has a scavenging effect on the exhaust port, which will let a fresher air and fuel charge into the cylinder for a more efficient burn. Thus creating more power.
