Their manufacturing is super crazy right. Almost, basically, two tenths (Imperial) of a difference between each color. That's aerospace clearances.

I wonder what the manufacturing tolerances are. Probably like +/- 0.000025".

I'm pretty sure they machine them the same and product variance makes the different sizes.

When the get to the top end of spec, flip the insert.

Controlling that tight is, impossible. I mean I've held half a thou, but, that was crazy tight. This? Sheer insanity.

Take a look at manufactured parts that are fitted to high-end horology pieces and the plating used on the surfaces. Well beyond anything I've ever work on.

I have a fondness for JLC.

Hell, George Daniels built his on the kitchen table, but yea, the specs are tighter then a nun's @$$.

I mean, just calibrating the gauges...it's, pretty nuts.

You're right. I was looking at things with the blinders of my personal experience doing oilfield connections. Half a thou is about 1/8 of a human hair, so I figured we were doing pretty good.

If we continually uplift one another through our knowledge, we'll all become that much more knowledgeable one piece of information at a time. I've learned a lot from you already. Thanks.

ive got these measurements after a LONG LONG debate with yamaha holland, ive orderd the spec´d bearings and they were almost if not at theyr weare limit.
after searcing this and various other forums i couldent find the sizes coresponding colours with sizes.
ive found the colours and sizes for honda suzuki kawa... but the fine people at yamaha treat it like its black magic.

ive orderd one from evry colour and measured evry single one in a climated measure room.

and also found one more bearing tighter( les oil clearance ) than listed by yamaha: 4c8-11656-A0 is an snowmobile part number, but it fits and is one step tighter.
yamaha does not write this option/colour in the workshop manual.

and instead of trowing my crank away and ordering a new one this resulted me to be richt in spec.

and one plane bearing lets say connrod green to white is 0.02mm( 2x scales ) is 0.04mm tighter.

with kind regards maarten tiemessen from holland

Where was this post last winter. Lol. I called Yamaha Canada and Yamaha USA to ask what the colors represent in actually sizes and no one could answer me. When using the Service Manual to determine which bearings I needed I still found that they weren't the correct size when I measured the clearances with plastigauge. It was a lot of trial and error until I got the clearance I wanted.
