Looking for input on Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002, Delorme Street Atlas Deluxe or Rand McNally TripMaker software programs. I am curious to know how much detail these programs provide regarding back/rural roads. I'm always looking to explore new rides. Thought it might be fun to plot out rides using this type of software program to get mileage and time forecasts. I'll stick to the trusty paper atlas if these things don't display hidden twisties.

I have used various version of Delorme over the years, and I am always impressed with the detail. Sometimes they even make up roads that aren't there! That's because some logging trails, etc. will show up on the photos that the maps come from. Can't go wrong with this software.

I've been using MS Streets & Trips for 3 years now. I've tried all of 'em, and I like MS the best. It seems to be the easiest to use. The detail is great. It's LOADED with info (gas stations, banks, restaurants, etc). It works with most GPS units (if you have a laptop to run the software). AND it's usually only about 35 bucks. I can't say for sure how good it is at showing backroads for the rest of the country, but it was KICK ASS at showing them in Illinois. I found roads that the locals from small towns didn't even know about. I give Streets & Trips 4.5 out of 5 stars!:thumbup
