the side panels do not need to come off... with the visor open, turn the bottom edge outwards towards the side panels.. do this gently or the side panels will pop off. as your applying this pressure on the bottom edge towards the outside, pull the visor out of the side panels. Once you have one side off, the other side removes in the same manner.

also.. your helmet might have the lid removal system (LRS) that makes removal easier.. look for a little lever between the side panel and the helmet with the visor raised... if you see the lever, just pull it forward.

:iamwithst not a stupid question. I had a smoked vison on, but wanted to change it to clear because I do a lot of night riding. It took me a LONG time to figure it out.

Yup...the shields are the biggest hit on Arai....you would think they would have come up with a better system by now. SHoei has the best system of all the helmets I think. I mean how difficult do they need to make it to change a damn shield!!

just spent 15 mts getting my smoke shield on mine last night - pain in the arse

those little levers are hard to get at - but push them all the way up and that will allow the shield to pop out of the tabs that hold it in...

Amazingly, i can change my shield on my Arai while wearing it........

Lets see you do that with a shoei.

I've actually changed them when at a stop light several times.

Yea those Arai's sheilds suck to change. I watched a dealer screw with one for about 20 minutes trying to show me the ease of an Arai sheid change. I was like screw that! I was trying toi decide between an Arai and a Shoei and that's all it took. I went with a Shoei helmet and have never regreted it once, they are sooooo easy to change. I would say the next easiest is KBC but they are no where near the brand that Shoei and Arai's are.

I use to keep an extra shield in my tank bag when I had my FZ1, now anything over 90 on my R1 and the tankg back slides to the side.

OGK's visor system is much better, 1 button & it pulls straight off :thumbup

A much simpler design, no arched holes, straight forward "Fork" design, with inboard tabs :yesnod

While I was at Daytona Bike Week, visited the Arai vendor and he showed me how to do it. Took him like 3 seconds to take one off and another 3 seconds to put another one on. After several tries I got it down pretty good. Its a pain in the ass to do it the first time, but once you learn the way, its a breeze.
