At an occasional light, I put the bike in neutral, and seconds later the rpms rise to about 2300. Once i put it in gear it goes back down. why the hell is it doing this? help

Was your clutch slipping? Did you adjust the cable?

Sounds like the clutch might not be fully disengaging. Do you feel any small forward motion of the bike?

Could also be that your idle is set too high. There is a knob just above your clutch housing on the right side of the bike, that adjusts your idle.

no, i know about the idle knob. I usually keep it set at about 1500. But just out of nowhere the rpms go up, and there is no bike movement

You might have a stuck temp sensor. The bike thinks it's cold and raises the rpm to warm up the engine just like when the bike is first turn on. Also try setting your idle to 1100. 1500 is a little to high.

1500 rpms is too high. The idle should be around 1250 rpm.

1.no free play in throttle cable.
2.vacuum leak.
3.carb sync

My 02 gets stuck in high rpm at 3k until the fans go on at 220 degrees then it is normal again. Where is the temp sensor. At what temp shoud it shut off. I replaced the header could I have done something wrong there.
