hey dank,

i have that one. it fits fine, I haven't bailed on my back yet so it hasn't been used. design-wise, it looks like its for impact only, it doesn't actually protect you from anything that would cause severe back flex.

not sure if more expensive units do this or not, does anyone know what causes most back injuries? is it impact on the backbone, or actual back flex? example might be falling flat on your back on the ground for the former, and flying into a pole and impacting on your back for the latter.

Thanks for the input. When I crashed I had only what back protection my JR Jacket provided. broke 2 ribs at the vertabrae (t1 and t2)......I'm hoping this will help next time.

Back injury

What I have read indicates flex is the biggest cause of spinal injury.

I work with a lot of spinal injurus. Most are from cars. I dont have enough experence with motercycles though. I almost never see brusing at the site of the fracture so I would suspect flx is a major cause. I am looking at diffrent back protectors that would help with that.

Back Protector

I recently crashed wearing the Knox yellow back protector (well I was also wearing other stuff :butt ). I'm convinced that it saved me from broken bones or maybe worse. I've now sold that one (it survived the crash remarkably well) as I found it a bit too large and it stopped me from moving around and off the bike. It's been replaced with a Clover one with a vertibra design, like a smaller one to that pictured above. I'd strongy recommend that anyone who rides should always wear one - especially as you can get them from about £50GBP upwards - may very well be the difference between walking away from a crash or being wheelchaired for the rest of your natural!!!

What happened Dank????

I was ridin along @ 45 (spd limit)on a 4 lane road w/painted median,

This crazy old blind bitch comes haulin ass out of a walgreens parking lot from my right, she was trying to cross the street to get into the northbound lane. I was going south. Any way, I had no time to react really. I nailed the brakes/horn, and swerved and she just kept coming. I don't remember any of it. My friend brian had to tell me bout it. He was right behind me.

Anyhoo........I slammed right into the front quarter panel of the 88 t-bird, went sailing over the car and landed in the median. I broke 6 ribs, a toe, had a concussion, nerve damage too. Still healing from it. happened last november..........and i was wearing a JR blaster, arai helmet, gloves, jeans, caterpiller boots.

the only good thing that came out of this was I learned how to paint in my down time, (see avatar) it may be ugly but its different.

I also now wear full gear when riding.
