best way to break- in my 04

hello guy's, I'm new to the forum but have been riding for 4 years.
i've always owned used bikes. so i never had to worry about break-in.

this will be my first new bike.

previously owed suzuki katana 750 then a vtr 1000

i'm now getting the2004 r1 picking it up tomorrow.(silver) I read how break in effects end horse power .

i'm a car mechanic and know all about cars but bikes are different. i know the owners manual tells you one way but is there a better way
