Ok, so over the winter I've been hitting the gym like a mad man an Ive gained a few inches in the chest, arms and thighs. Problem is the weather cleared up so I could get out to ride but found out that now my leathers don't fit any more (damn it there went $1000).
So a question to the community. Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand and model of suit that works for a gym rat?

Get it taken out. Barnacle Bill does awesome work. He'll add some stretch panels and it'll fit even better than before! depending on your suit, it'll prolly only be a couple hundred compared to a new suit that won't fit quite right anyway. Suits don't come in 'athletic physique' sizes....

Yup get it altered. Dont tale it to a regular taylor shop bcz they will tell you that their machine might break. Lol. Take it to a upholstery shop. Tell them specific to what you need.

Sorry I missed your post.

First of all, the Held and Spidi brands seem to have a little more room than say the Dainese or RS Taichi.

I will need a little more info to help like height, weight chest measurement.

Also, which suit and what size are you wearing now??

Thank you,

Dave

Thanks everyone for the advice. I tried a few different options and it looks like I just need a bigger suit. Going to go from a 48 to a 52 and have it altered down in a few places (like the waist and leg length) with stretch panels put in so its snug where it should be and I can still move. Barnacle Bill can do it for $250 and I discovered last night that I still have a special offer card from when I went to CSS that can get me into a new suit for about $700 (SCORE!). Even with the alterations its going to be better than an off the rack option. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Update and Im now looking for advice again.
I bought an AVG size 52 Astra and was super excited when it arrived last night. Unfortunately the legs are WAY smaller than my 48 that I can still fit in. I cant even get the knees up to the right place in this new one (the pucks end up about half way up my shin LOL). Its almost as if they now use "skinny jeans sizes" for this suit or something.
So WTF? How is a 48 bigger than a 52? Does anyone know if AVG makes a model that has larger (diameter not length) legs? Bill says he thinks he can mod these but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Track opens up in just 22 more days and I have to have this worked out!!!!

Ugh. When you posted, it was too late to tell you - the brands you listed are euro cut - yes, basically skinny jeans size. There aren't many brands that are 'American' cut anymore. I used to fit in a 54 agv, but couldn't even a leg in a dianese or spidi suit. The only brands I fit in are joe rocket and Kobe. Kobe is out of business and not sure of joe rocket availability anymore. I went custom a couple years back and never looked back. I actually have to get it altered this year because my calves grew lol. I can't see where you're located cause I'm on my phone. Where ya at? I have a 54 Kobe you can try on to see if it works.

Sorry - just re-read. I think agv got bought out by someone cause a few years ago, I couldn't find them new. Maybe they're euro cut now? Can you still get the first suit altered?

I have never seen working out for a few months "3-4" gets you any size. Special if your new at it. :eek:fftopic:

Def have to go to a leather tailor or leather specialist. normal tailors can't touch it. I would say send back the new suit and have the first altered to get you by....then go custom asap. you'll never look back once you go the custom route. Look at the price as an investment. I know of a few custom suits lasting longer than the rider's tenure....

My custom had a couple cool features. Besides my design, colors and my name, double zipper front bib (love it), no collar for my no-neck lol, have a small speed hump sewn 2 inches lower to accomadate said low neck, and no perforation in crash zones.I just have to get the calf stretch panels replaced with an added 1/2" of material....

Ya WAY off topic. Im definitely not new to the gym. Been training and coaching for nearly 15yrs and yes 3-4" in your chest along with about a 90lbs bench increase is VERY doable over 4-6months of winter.
