I really would like to get a bike alarm for my 1. Now I know my bike is never going to leave my side when its not in the garage. In fact, if I can't see it at all times when its out, I don't bring it out at all.

However, I'd still like something to tell me if someone is trying to mess with it in my garage at night, or something like that.

Does anyone have any experience with an alarm on their bikes? Any recommendations? How is the setup, and also how easy is it to dismantle if a potential stealer would like to?

If anyone could point me in some direction, that'd be great. :thumbup

They don't work. People ignore them. I know they ignored mine in broad daylight. Get a baby monitor. Hide it near your bike. I caught some scumbag thief at 3:30 am trying to steal my bike. Bet he was surprised. Of course I couldn't ask him, he had a substantial head wound before the conversation really got rolling.

I don't know jack about bike alarms, but I know a helluva lot about home security.

You can just add a motion detector in a corner of your garage and have it activate a siren/horn if tripped. It's a simple setup you can do yourself for about $100.

I think radio shack sells everything you need. A cheap alarm control panel would give you the ability to arm system via wireless keychain, wireless keypad or wired keypad. Best reliability is always with a hard wired system.

Just my .02.

The best type of system I could imagine would be OnStar adapted for a motorcycle. I have not seen this yet. I've got a friend that's a police officer and he said the OnStar folks can track a stolen vehicle as its moving using GPS technology. There's a near 100% recovery rate should they disable the alarm and run off with your vehicle. Also, if you had a headset, an OnStar representative can give you driving directions, patch you through to any telephone, make reservations for you, get help, and much more.

That'd be great. Here, recently the police have received technology where they can turn off the ignition to any OnStar vehicle that is stolen, without having to go through OnStar.

However, that's pricey. I'm still just looking for a good old alarm with a sensor.

I would definitely recommend the Scorpio alarms. I had one previously on my R6 and I will be using it again on my new R1 when it gets here. True, people just ignore alarms nowadays in the city, but here in my suburb if it goes off in the early morning, my neighbors & I will come a runnin'. Also, to help with paranoia they have a add-on page unit that will page you with the type of alarm sensor triggered and it also is a confirmation-type page system. Very nice. I just wish they had the OEM connector interface for the 2K2 R1 like they had for my R6, it was sooo easy to install.

I wish i could find a motion detector but with just a pager system(i've been playing with the thought of making my own). This way when the thief starts playing with my bike i can sneak up on him and use his head as a pinyada....:machinegu

LoJack is coming out with a system for bikes. Let's the police track it and recover...

Some rental cars (Acme for one) have a similar system, but they also use it to charge you $$ every time you speed! Last I heard the case was in court...
