I'm sick of seeing all these posts from gixxer riders on this forum, going on about how the gixxer thou is faster than the R1. Pulls quicker quarter miles, has faster lap times etc etc.

Wake up. It may be faster in the US, where the average level of riding skill is low, but in Aus the only place where the gixxer thou and the R1 compete side by side is in formula extreme, and the gixxer thou to my knowledge has yet to make it to the podium. it is quite simple totally decimated by the R1 in EVERY RACE. And not an R1/R7 hybrid, but a fairly much street legal R1.

Maybe that's because aussie racers have the skill required to get the most out of the R1 and the Americans/Brits don't.

I agree with you on the Gixxers but I don't know about the American riding levels being considered low. I'm no Mick Doohan or Miguel Duhamel but I'm defenitly no squid either especially living in Alaska where we can ride mostley 6 months out of the year. I've also seen some guys here at the track that can do some amazing stuff with wheelies and cornering. Aside from dodging the moose on the streets we have to contend to pot holes from winter and the left over gravel. I'd say our level of riding here in the U.S. is very good.

I guess my only point was that the fastest riders in Australia (and aussies make up a large percentage of the fastest guys in the world) shun the GSXR for the R1. Why would that be? Most likely because the R1 is a better platform to go fast (and hence win races) on.

And it's the New Zealanders that have a thing for sheep, not the aussies.

But seriously, would the suzuki boys appreciate me going over to gixxer.com with the sole purpose of bagging the GSXR? I doubt it, so why should we tolerate these gixxer idiots and their GSXR vs R1 rubbish here?

just let them talk their smack. Those guys are too insecure about their bikes so they have to come to our site and talk crap so they can try and boost their confidence but we all know which bike is the baddest :rock

What is chosen seem to be a bit country specific. I race in a German series, and the R1 has always been very popular. Since it debut it has been winning a lot. But last year, most of the fastest racers went over to Suzuki and the Gixxer was getting all the throphies.

This year, there are several racers who have chosen to replace the Gixxer with the R1, but the Suzuki is still dominating at the top.

But to draw a conclusion that one bike is better than the other based on a result in a series is hardly valid. The above is a goode example of that. If the best teams ride the Gixxer, it will win. If the same teams change to the R1, the situation will most likely be reversed.
