What does everyone use to clean their carbs? I took mine off recently and noticed some black buildup where the carbs meet the motor.
Can I use throttle body cleaner to clean out that black stuff? Is it dangerous if any of that falls into the motor?
On my old FZR, I would dump carb cleaner down the throats while it was running and that worked well. Can I do the same thing with the 1? Don't want to screw up the TPS or something..

THanks,

Carb Cleaner

Carb Cleaner from any auto parts store will work fine, and will not hurt anything. Make sure you are spraying cold parts however, sometimes the carb cleaner will "spot" up hot parts.

nonononononononnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooo...

you mean that this black stuff in IN the intake tracts?

if so,that"s normal...on new bikes, you"ll find that black paint in the exhausts tracts too.

they use it to check the "porting"...or it can also be powdercoat residues from the head painting...just like in all the radiator...that become the black sludge found in the catchtank.

if its In the carbs, its simply blowbacks from poping while under deceleration...nothing harmless.

Martinc..can't thank you enough for all your help. Anyways - once again you are correct. I do some powdercoating on the side and I knew that black stuff had a familiar texture to it. It's definitely powerdercoat. Now, the stuff inside the intake tract I'll have to clean out nicely.
