My 2010 R1 has been an utter nightmare to start when cold, so I removed the crankshaft cover per the advice I found on another thread (https://www.r1-forum.com/threads/2010-r1-wont-start.347093/). While putting it back together, I found the outside CCT bolt had stripped part of the threads, which came out with the bolt. This is stupid.

Thankfully, it's the outside one, so re-tapping the hole seems totally possible. Which leads me to my question: Should I go one-size up from the original, or must I go two up for the new, larger bolt to get enough holding power? (I kinda suspect so.)

The stock hex-cap screw is a 6X25, 1.25. The jump from 6mm to 8mm seems quite large. I'm not a metallurgist, so I'm not certain about tapping the hole to 7x25 1.25. Advice?

It depends on how much material is left on the boss. If it's hefty , you can go to an 8mm no worries.
