....so with PPIR closed now what...two years, and that other one outside Denver closed as well...what's left in the state for road courses that allow bikes?

Well...there are still a few options. And if all goes well there are TWO completely new facilities that have been proposed and are in the process of raising funding.

Pueblo Motorsports park AKA - PMI
track map - http://www.pueblomotorsportspark.com/map.htm
track website - http://www.pueblomotorsportspark.com/

Lajunta - http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/CO/LaJunta.html

And there is another track called IMI, which unfortunately amounts to a go cart/motard track. It's tough to get out of first gear on a moden sportbike.

Here's some information on the two new proposed tracks. Should even one of these succeed...it will be AWESOME!

http://www.highplainsraceway.com/

http://www.genoamotorsports.com/

That should cover everything.

Do people still go to PMI? Last time I was there (bout 4 years ago) I thought that track was a joke. No corner workers, give the old man in the ticket booth 45 bucks and the track was yours. Scared the shit out of me. No one even manned the booth where the entrance crossed the track. Jebus.

The rest I haven't heard about...save for Genoa...looked into them, but they don't seem to catre to bikes...?

Never mind...I'm an idiot...still in the planning stages. Either track would be friggn cool. Can't believe they closed PPIR, that irked me and I don't even live there any longer. So for now what you are saying is PMI is the only track available. :scared:

PMI is still essentially the "best" although I use the term sparingly. It's lack of corner workers is by far the biggest thing it has against it. The track itself is quite fun with all the elevation change. It basically comes down to who's running the event. That determines the level of safety.

The past year I have only ridden at MPH (Motorsports Park Hastings) in Hastings Nebraska. It's a brand new track is super smooth asphalt. The events I've done have been run by track addix and are a true class act in every way in my opinion. I really wish they would run events at Pueblo like that.

In any case, if HPR and Genoa actually happen...it will be an AWESOME area for track time!!! (fingers crossed)

I work only about a mile from IMI but have sadly never stopped in for a few laps. It's not much but it would be fun.

I have done the cart rental deal a few years ago and that was a good kick in the pants.

Sadly I have never done a track day and really don't like the idea of pueblo being the only real option. Heck my wife has done more track days then me!

I'm not sure how they can get away with no corner workers. The day we were there, four of us had the track to ourselves. Cool in some respects, but ti soon wore off when we realized we could um...well die.

What is the time frame of the new builds?

How far is Hastings from say...C Springs or Denver? Got to be at least 7 or 8 hours from Denver....it's 10 to Des Moines...

How do the get away with it is anybodies guess. Lajunta is the same way. There were a few fatilities at Lajunta last year that have resulted in more saftey precautions being taken, but it's still not a perfect system.

Track days here are nice in the respect that they are not overflowing with people. You'll never have 70 people in a session or anything like that. But I've come to appreciate cornerworkers and an ambulance being on site. Once (and IF) Genoa and High Plains Raceway open, I see no way for Pueblo to stay arround. I just don't know how they could compete. And in my mind it's well worth the increased price for a more organized track day.

Hasting is a pretty good drive. It's definitely a good 7-8 hours pulling the bikes. I have a friend who's family lives about 40 miles South of Hastings. So it works great to take a friday off, drive out and eat some home cookin and hit the track on Saturday. The only thing that Hastings lacks in my opinion is the elevation change. And the long front straight at Pueblo can be a blast too.

Let me recommend if you dont' mind the drive then is to hit up Topeka KS. They just redid that track....two years ago I believe. Bit long...really fun....very fast. Great 1 litre track.

What about Salt Lake? There has to be other tracks...around...say within a 5 hour drive.

Yep....My friends and I have brough up the prospect of going to Topeka. And Miller is definitely in the cards...I just haven't figured out how and when yet. Last year it was right after our trip to Deal's Gap. And this year We'll be going to Deal's Gap and the WSBK race at Miller.
