Ok so I need an idea how to build an 04-06 subframe to fit on a 02-03 frame.....

Square tubing?
round tubing?
what thickness aluminum should I use?

Did you fab the 2004 swingarm to fit a 2002-2003?

If so how did you do it? Was it a lot of work? It looks very good!

only work I had to do was new linkage mounts and I havent redone the top mount yet but that will be done before I ride. Mainly it was a huge drill bit, a sander, and a lot of thinking....

Interesting.... there is an old thread with someone overr in the UK who did the tail conversion. Do a search. Looked cool but out of place a little bit.

well I didnt like 02-03 swingarm, and the undertail exhausts for that year none really impressed me. plus I was bored and have full access to a machine shop so why not have a lil fun

I think a trellis style frame would be choice

I would go with square tubing. It will give you great strength while giving you easy options for mounting tabs etc....

check out the available wall thicknesses in probably 1/2"x1/2" tubing. I would not be cheap in that department.

i just did a search for the orginal post on a guy who has done exactly what you want... he put an 04 tail on an 02 r1... it looked pretty good and he claimed that it wasnt too much work... only problem was the angle of the tail was a little bit to steep...

sorry i couldnt find it, but keep using the search button and you might find it...

be sure to post pics will you be using underseat pipes as well
i think that will help the tailpiece not seem to high in the air.

I would say to go similar to the original subframe. 3/4x3/4 1/8' wall with stock style mounting tabs. You should be able to achieve any angle you need by varying the lengths.
