Let me start by saying, shopping for an 02 R1 sux.

I got approved on Thurs. by Yamaha. Went to a dealer in the denver area(only one that had a blue in stock). Took them until Friday to get the figures together. Finally, was told it would be $12,300 OTD. They were trying to stick me for $1200 freight and setup. I informed them that I found a dealer that was getting a blue one in this month and would let it go for 10,400+tax. They said they'd meet me half way $700 over retail. They all talk like if u wont pay it someone else will. The next place tells me come on in and im sure we can get real close. So I fight the traffic at 4pm across town. Get there and they're like we wont sell one for less than $1000 over list. The place I finally went with was totally helpful over the phone and when I drove the 100mi to give my deposit, the people there were totally customer service oriented. They said they would keep me posted on delivery date. I told the salesman that I liked doing business with them and when I have to buy two YZ85's for 2003, id drive the distance to buy from them. My son races motocross and we spend $$$ at motorcycle shops. I'm not so much upset about price but the way that some dealers treat their customers. K, through venting.

Now I just wonder how many sleepless nights before the bike gets in.......lol

Don't feel too bad .............................

I paid 11,300.00 out the door . Dealership was OK and I really did'nt haggle I just told them what I was willing to pay and they said :thumbup . Only sticking point for me is that I've had the bike since April and I just found out that my tag is not on file anywhere. I called the dealer and talked to one ignoramus who told me it was my problem. I told him if it was then I'd like a refund of the money I paid for transfer of tag and title. I was promptly transfered to the tag clerk. This was last month and I have'nt heard from them yet, my tag expires next month. :machinegu

I had to pay 500 extra just because it was silver, but I like it gonna pick it up 21st after my driver license road test since insurance rate on permit is off the wall

I'm not disappointed by it at all. I was in there at CO Powersports a few weeks ago to get an '01 R1, and they quoted me $10299 for the '02. I still got the '01 though. I'm surprised they wouldn't budge.

I hear ya

Think it's real kewl when a dealer will tell someone $10,299 then you go to sign papers and see that they've added big $$$ for freight and setup. Even go as far as telling you that it takes like five hours to assemble. I would respect them more if they just come out and be up front. Just tell the customer that the extra $$ is due to demand instead of the BS. Sorry I guess it just pisses me off cause im in the sales industry and build lasting relationships with honesty. Salesman there was real kewl and it isnt his fault that the Finance guy's greedy. I just believe good business practices get u future business and referrals.

I always......................

Negotiate a bottom line price only. That way you don't get stuck in the dome on the way out the door. When I bought my Lexus and my Xterra I did the same thing. Both times the guys thought they had some sort of idiot willing to pay way over sticker at his own suggestion. Then I hit them with the fact that I'm talkin out the door and it was'nt so friendly. I always get up leave a card and go home. I always leave a profit in the deal and calculate in the tax tag and title. I don't belive in shipping and set up, and I aint payin it. If it comes out of their fair profit then so be it. But I always look at it as " I got money and you want it."

the shop here in BFE, New Mexico was letting em go for 9,800 out the door, I think its cause there's a lot of drugs in this town, and lets say a drug dealer wants to buy a bike but knows if he spends 10k or more in cash that it will get reported. So they make less profit per bike but they can't keep anything for more than a day. there's too many guys with lots of cash. Hell I had to go all the way to Louisiana too get mine and load it in a U-haul and drive it back. It really blew driving 979 miles with a new r1 in the back. especially coming through the mountains.:cryin any way I ended up paying 10,900 out the door plus just over 600 bucks for the uhaul. 11,500 bucks.........and its worth every penny! except for all the friggin bolts that came loose and the two that fell out.

Originally they were going to sell me the Blue 02 R1 for $580 less than a Silver one. Then he bumped the blue one down another $100.00. Told me that they hadn't sold a blue R1 yet so they were going to give me a great deal so they could get rid of blue to get another silver in. Basically I paid $680.00 more for Silver. But at least I got what I wanted.

On another note. Washington Riders ... Tacoma Motorsports are the ones that "F'ed" me with this deal. So keep that in mind if you shop from TACOMA MOTORSPORTS! They'll "F" you too. By the way, they quoted me a price over the phone for the silver one and then bumped it up $480.00 once I came into the store.

I'll make sure I warn any other people who shop with them not to go there around this forum, one for all
all for one :fact
You should tell them customer is always right, although
I hear 02 Blue r1s don't sell as goon as red/silver ones
I like em all as long as they are R1 but i preffer silver it goes nice with stainless steel parts, but i guess thats personall prefference.
P.S they should have a dealer chart on this site something like a Store chart with ratings maybe ?
whoever administers this site should add this feature :lol
