Fellas, does anyone know if I go down a tooth up front (or up a few in back) on my 04 will it decrease/increase horsepower or will it have no effect?

I am not into high-speed as much as I am into wicked quick power as in 1/4 mile stuff. Thanks

WIll NOT affect horsepower, It will change your drive ratio more low end less top end however down 1 on the front will be a very small amount proably wont even notice it

1 in the front = 2.78 in the rear. (thats a big difference)

You will notice a difference, but it will not effect actual hp.

1 down in front made my 2003 gsxr much more twitchy during wheelies and the geras wound up quicker and I had to shift quicker, you are using the HP differently, not changing it. I like stock gearing personally after having tried one down in front.

Dropping one in the front will get you through the gears quicker. With the tall gearing on the '04 I'm thinking of dropping one in front and adding one in the rear. This pretty much equals dropping 1 1/3 off the front.

Since the front OEM sprocket is so cheap I'll try that first though and see how I like it.

I stand corrected.....forgive me this is the 6th day of workinf 12 hours shifts on nights in a row...I ****ing tired...yes up or down in the front will be rather noticable...When I said that earlier I was think of my set up which is on the rear 1 up a little gain but not to much....I actually did 1 up r 1 down F and it was too much put the front back to stock and me likes.....

Changing only one tooth in the front will produce a markedly noticable affect compared to same change in the rear. Personally, based on what I've seen of the '04's ratios, I'd play with changing the front/rear by 1 dn/(1-3) up - making it more inclined to nose climb w/ liberal throttle inputs, but faster accelerating. Probably find better use at tighter courses, & particularly on public roads w/ the stock gearing.

Consider installing speedo healer to maintain speedo integrity, as your speedo would overstate true speed by a fair margin.

Oh yeah. What's the best way to correct the speedo in these cases? Is a 'speedo healer' an actual product name?

I had a Question, I was told to go one down in the front but not sure what I should do in the back. now this is the reason why I wanted eather more speed or to reach top speed faster...

now this is what happen to me we have a long straight away where I live and I usually spoke anyones bikes on there even been taking the critically acclaimed s1000rr whitch i think is over rated anyways.

A friend of mine actually passed me on a 2005 kawazaki 1000. while i was reaching 6th gear red line. hell am still stunned about it.

He low speed sucks but he can catch up to me at top end any suggestions?

:hammer: +2 in rear equals about -7 mph at around 75 speedo reading unhealed according to gps. Personally had 1 d f and +2 r on previous r1 and 90 mph highway driving was too high in revs for me.
