i am in in panama city fl and springbreak is already out of hand and there is nothing worse than cruising the strip and seeing all the bikes show a short wheelie and having the only 02 R1 and not being able to? i have been riding for a while and just not got into wheelies just always been into real riding. so can anyone give me a good detailed scoop on popping it up i can do it in 1st with just a little roll on the throttle. but i think i would rather do 2nd !

only thing i can think of worse than not being able to do a short wheelie on your brand new beauty would be to dump it and make an ass out of yourself infront of all the :boobies . screw it dude, you will turn enough heads with the bike, chicks dig tricks but don't try to go balls out. just have a good time and take some ladies for rides while all the other dudes are too busy showin' off!:yesnod

Dude, I must agree with crashfallon. If that bike isn't standing itself up, then you are NOT ready. You don't want to get that bike up until you are 110% comfortable on it, and maybe even more. It sounds as if this may be your first bike or you may be fairly new to riding (no offense if this isn't the case).

At any rate, you really gotta take it easy on an R1. If you don't know what you're doing, you may unknowingly be resisting the bike coming up. If you keep trying, it may come up in a hurry and bite you in the ass. The fools who are popping it up in congested traffic are either complete f*cking morrons, or they have been riding for quite a long while, or BOTH.

When you're out on barren clear back roads, just practice rolling it on in 1st and 2nd, hard but slow and controlled. It won't be long and your front end will start hopping up. Take your learning curve slowly from there and you'll get the hang of it.

She comes up nice off the throttle in second without any probs and thirds are only a little clutch blip away.

If you must, i find dipping the clutch at about 4000rpm in 2nd, followed immediately by about quarter throttle, enough to bring her up. BE CAREFUL though., she comes up way too fast if you are not sensitive with your right wrist (and cover the rear brake)

Don't bother with 1st gear wheelies they are less controllable and dont last as long.
