In short,(and I already wrote that a couple days ago!)its a valve that partially close up the exhaust at low revs to produce more torque by creating a back-pressure effect and opens up gradually to let the flow of gases out easily as the rpms go up.

Toruqe-producing device used by almost all the big manufacturers.

The exup is part of the exhaust manifold;you can actually see a part of it sticking out of the belly pan.

Removing it is not a good idea,since (answering question #3) the stock exhaust is designed to use it.

The proper way to "remove it" is by switching to a full aftermarket exhaust system.

the popping is caused by the AIS sys. not the exup valve.

Yes, buy some AIS block off plugs from Graves motor sports and install them , it will almost completely stop the decel pop.
