Got another newb question for you guys. I've been shopping around for bikes, and people told me to get a salvaged bike. Almost all of them say that all the fairings are broke and need to be replaced. What are fairings? Are they the plastics? Are they expensive to replace, or does it depend on the bike? Thanks

fairings are the plastics....depends on which ones you need....and i got all of mine off ebay....so i paid what i wanted after the starting bid....dealer wanted too much money.....

Dealers are super expensive. However you can get a goo set of plastics from sharkskinz, Ak Composite etc for a decent price and a mear fraction of what the dealer wants.

And that way you can put your own scheme on the bike.

most farings on an R1 are about $250-$280 each..... you have 6 on the Yamahas

Yeah fearings can add upto quite a bit if need replacing. A few companies over here in Aus now have fibreglass street fearings available(like race fearings but with cut outs for h'lights etc etc)-they may be a good idea if youre paranoid about dropping your bike:thumbup
