Fi 2000 Cobra vs Power commander

2220 Views 14 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  jmhughes
I recently bought an 05 R1 with pretty much everything done to it. In the sense of performance, it has a full Akrapovic exhaust -1 front sprocket and a Fi2000 Cobra fuel processor. I'm about to add a BMC race filter and Factory Pro velocity stacks. There is a shop near me (MPH Ohio) that said they can custom tune it with the Cobra, but they recommend I get the Power Commander. (They're a PC dealer so of course they do). So my question is, do I stick with the Fi2000 Cobra/ Can it be tuned just as well?Or do I listen to them and get the PC? Also, can the custom tune correct my speedometer from the sprocket change?
Thanks.

I don't know anything about the Cobra but am familiar with the Power Commander because that's all I've ever run. I think you'll find that more shops will be able to tune your bike because they are also more familiar with the PC over the Cobra.

Regarding the speedo, I recommend and use the Speedo DRD. Simple to install and program (under 10 mins total). My '06 is -1, +2 and the DRD is perfect.

Welcome to the site btw.
Same here... never heard of a Cobra fuel processor and I had a 05 for over 5 years.

Buy a used PC3 or PC5 for your 05. I'm sure you can find one in our classified section here... www.r1-forum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=151

SpeedoDRD is the best... can be bought from www.motomummy.com

:stpd: :fact

I have only ever heard of leaking harley's using Cobra piggy backs....just stick with a PC. And Kevap is spot on about the SpeedoDRD, it is tiny, super easy to setup and Corey at motomummy sells them for a steal, happy shopping. :)
The Fi2000 Cobra is basically a knock off of the Techlusion TFI. It amplifies the signal to the injectors after the ecu. It has three adjustments, one for idle and cruising, one for accelerating, and one for top end. The PC seems to have a lot more adjustability for maps so I'll probably go with that then. In the meantime I'm going to stick with the Cobra for a few months while I get used to the bike, since I can tune that myself. Thanks for the input. I can't wait for the snow to finally melt!
I'll be ordering that speedodrd with Friday's paycheck. Thanks for the advice.
No worries, it really is the best out. Small, simple and super easy to program. Pretty water resistant too
Everything done to it? Tell that to redgecko :lol

PC for sure

:no You can download generic maps from PC's website that will get you in the area of a decent tune for almost any specific exhaust, airfilter, V-stack mod until you can or want to get a custom tune...I wouldnt waste my money on a Cobra tunner man....seriously they are junk.
The previous owner put the Cobra on it. And it doesn't have EVERYTHING, but it has a lot. Carbon fiber all over, Marchesini forged aluminum wheels, full Akrapovic titanium exhaust, vortex sprockets, Sato rear sets, CRG levers, Renthal grips, fender eliminator, frame sliders, and some other cosmetics. I just added the BMC race filter, fresh Amsoil, engine ice, NGK iridiums, and flushed the breaks. After I put in the velocity stacks and get a custom tune, all that's really left is to work on the suspension. It's nowhere near redgecko's bike, but it's my dream bike in every way :) (tied with the new 2015 R1M)

Sounds tastey. :) Redgecko's bike is garbage....:lol If it were me I would change the cobra out for a PCV with some auto tune action.... If I was going to keep my bike I would change out my PCIII for a V. :yesnod
I didn't know the PC V/auto tune was compatible with the 05's. I would have to double check, but I don't know if the full Akra has an o2 sensor hole to plug the auto tune into. But then again I could be blind and probably looked right at it a dozen times already.
It may not but you can always have it modified to fit one, lots of folks on here have done it.
Well the weather finally cleared up here in Ohio, so I got to take her out Friday and yesterday. Holy crap does this thing perform. I'm never riding a cruiser again. I'll be going with the PC and custom tune once I get used to how different this bike is. Thanks for all the advice guys.
