gas cap? NOT A CHROMING QUESTION!!!

i have a 2005 r1 with 25 000KM on it and i was wondering if it is normal that water is sipping into the gas tank.....looks like the seal is finished.....also i was wondering if it possible to change the seal only or do i have to change the whole gas cap. thanks

you should be able to change the seal only, given that the dealer will sell it by itself. i hav taken it apart and its not that big a deal.

Are you sure it isn't gas? If your breather line is pinched it is possible that gas is coming up thru the breather hole becuase of back pressure...

Check your breather tube...runs down the side of your bike, comes out near your left foot....

I was looking at the Parts Fish, and it looks like the Seal is only sold w/ the Cap...

no i checked....plus i had rust starting to form which i wiped off. i called the dealer and they will replace it under warranty but i will keep an eye on it the bike is brand new from this year....
