What is the shelf life of gasoline? I have heard it starts to go bad after 30 days unless it is mixed with fuel stabalizer. Anybody know how long it takes until it turns to varnish?

Todays modern gas is total crap. Basically is starts to turn within a couple of weeks. The key term there being starts. I would definately put stabilizer in if you think that you are going to not use the full tank in less than a month. Rate of "turning" will depend upon the brand.

How about Sunoco 100 Octane Cam2 gasoline? If u use higher octane gas will it last longer? And also, performance wise, will U gain a few ponies filling up the R1 wit 100/octane? What type of gas do u guys/gals use? I generally put Sunoco Ultra 94 but on occasion I fill it up wit Cam2. Will I harm the engine in anyway if I only use Cam2? Is this a bad thing, what octane do the superbikes use? I know i'm rambiling but i'm try'n 2 get all my ?'s out in the open!!!

Ur turn>>>>>>

Higher Octain, usually burns slower.....so in some engines that spin quick it can hurt in everyday driving......My Rx7's prefer 89 over 93, unless I am dogging them.....I like to run Cam2, or Turbo Blue, or 100 low lead AC in the bike, cause it smells so damn good....:crash

The general rule of thumb is to use the lowest octane that will not cause the engine to knock (predetonate). You can hear predetonation when you accelerate. It sounds like marbles rattling in a tin can. It stops when you back off the throttle. I get minor predetonation when I run 87 octane. I run 89 octane without any problems.

higher octane it NOT the answer...

Cam2 comes in two grades- 105 octane and 110. it is in excess of 5.00/6.00 a gallon (repesctively) high octance gas DOES NOT LAST AS LONG as say Sunoco 94 (which quite hoenstly is ideal sportbike gasoline) and the cam2 not only burns longer, but burns HOTTER which can cause you to do more damage than good especially during "around the street" riding where lack of airflow (I should say "cooler, high-speed airflow" does not aid in cooling the engine.

cam2 is attractive to alot of guys because it represents the essence of "racing" gasoline...the difference is most guys are not racing - when you can't figur out why you're actually running worse or buring up piston rings, sooner or later you'll figure out that it's because you're not racing - you're street riding hard. big difference.

Just as you wouldn't want to use street tires on the track, the opposite also applies, you wouldn't necesarily want to use track tires on the street - because you wouldn't get them up to operating temperature (most likely- not trying to start a debate here)

Don't get me wrong - I run cam2 OCCASIONALLY on the days when it's balls-to-the-wall ballistic riding (usually on week days on sunned up warm roads but with not-overly-hot air and with no cars[a la weekdays]) but I do not recomend you run it regularly for street use, and Sunoco 94 or comparable 93/94 octance gas is penty enough. As for shelf life - what the **** are you doing, running your own petrol distellry>? you run low, you fill up your tank at the gas station - I myself don't keep gas other than for my lawnmower - it's not wine and doesn't age any better!!! Lawnmowers aren't really as mobile as bikes, so that is a reason to keep gas on hand. Bikes should get fresh gas from the station- then there' no worry abou varnish.

Lemme get this str8....

Filling up ur tank wit Ultra 94 is good, but filling it up wit Cam2 isn't unless ur gonna race ur bike all day......right? I think I got it now......TY Scud...c ya @ the gas station..

Ohh BTW, over here in Fort Lee there is a Sunoco station where i get my Cam 2 and the octane is 100.... ur Sunoco sells 2 types of octane Cam2, thats amazing....wanna try 110 Octane sometime soon.. I think u do notice a difference though!!!!!!!!:thumbup

Seeing how Indiana has a low standard of living......our cam2 110 oct is $4.35 a Gallon...:butt

But then again, there are more than 2 grades of Cam2, or any other racing fuel.......and since I live in Indy, I can get them all!!!! :rock

You just have to know where to get it.

And FYI, when I run it for the smell, its a mixture of 89 oct mid grade shell, with the racing fuel, just enough to get that sweet smell.

The 100 lo lead small plane fuel is the best for it though, it has a lil hint of lead in there to keep things nice and cool :bash

The old trick was to put leaded petrol in during the winter. This [email protected] unleaded stuff turns into swarfega in no time. From what I understand it evaporates quicker.
