Todays modern gas is total crap. Basically is starts to turn within a couple of weeks. The key term there being starts. I would definately put stabilizer in if you think that you are going to not use the full tank in less than a month. Rate of "turning" will depend upon the brand.
Gasoline
What is the shelf life of gasoline? I have heard it starts to go bad after 30 days unless it is mixed with fuel stabalizer. Anybody know how long it takes until it turns to varnish?
